Title: On The Verge Of I Do
Author: Heidi Betts
Description: It's hard for events planner Kara Kincaid to be planning her sister's wedding to the man Kara's had a crush on since childhood. Even harder when said sister calls the whole thing off. Hardest still is when the jilted groom shows Kara some very personal attention, threatening to destroy her relationship with her family—and Kara ends up in his bed anyway.
After a just-friends engagement that just didn't work, hotel magnate Eli Houghton thinks he's finally found the right woman. His new plan: convince Kara there's no hidden agenda, and that the magic words are I do
My Thoughts: Let me first say that reading a Harlequin Desire, for that matter any Harlequin, is like coming home. Harlequins are what started my love affair with the romance genre at the age of twelve and has kept me in its folds ever since. Heidi Betts welcomed me home with a warm embrace, otherwise known as her novel, “On The Verge of I Do“.
Kara and Eli grew up together and Kara has always crushed on Eli, so you can only imagine how hard it is for her to plan her sister’s marriage to him. Yet, she loves them both enough to want them to be happy, so she pushes past her secret feelings. Then Kara's sister calls off her wedding and Eli realizes he doesn’t feel bad that she did at all. If anything, he realizes that he might have been with the wrong sister. With one kiss, he sees that Kara was the sister he was meant for and the plans of seduction go into play. Kara feels guilty about wanting Eli. Sure, she has always loved him, but acting on it is sure to cause not only guilt, but gossip. Eli, however, won't give her time to think too much before he turns up the heat to get what he wants.
This is book four in this series, but it can be read as a stand alone. I loved how they grew up together and Kara harbored feelings for Eli that she was scared to act on until it was too late. Eli was scrumptious and you have to love a guy who goes after what he wants until he gets it, even if he is a little late on figuring it out. Kara is sweet, caring and very likable as a leading lady. She is basically your every day, girl next door. When Kara and Eli finally give in the passionate, tender romance between them is pretty hot in bed. Betts has captured every element in “On The Verge of Saying I Do” that made me fall in the with Harlequins and romance.
