Review for Second Grave on the Left

Title: Second Grave On The Left
Author: Darynda Jones
Description: Charley Davidson, Grim Reaper Extraordinaire, is back in this sexy, suspenseful novel of supernatural shenanigans
When Charley is rudely awakened in the middle of the night by her best friend who tells her to get dressed quickly and tosses clothes out of the closet at her, she can’t help but wonder what Cookie’s up to. Leather scrunch boots with a floral miniskirt? Together? Seriously? Cookie explains that a friend of hers named Mimi disappeared five days earlier and that she just got a text from her setting up a meet at a coffee shop downtown. They show up at the coffee shop, but no Mimi. But Charley finds a message on the bathroom wall. Mimi left a clue, a woman’s name. Mimi’s husband explains that his wife had been acting strange since she found out an old friend of hers from high school had been found murdered a couple weeks prior. The same woman Mimi had named in her message. Meanwhile, Reyes Alexander Farrow (otherwise known as the Son of Satan. Yes. Literally) has left his corporeal body and is haunting Charley. He’s left his body because he’s being tortured by demons who want to lure Charley closer. But Reyes can’t let that happen. Because if the demons get to Charley, they’ll have a portal to heaven. And if they have a portal to heaven…well, let’s just say it wouldn’t be pretty. Can Charley handle hot nights with Reyes and even hotter days tracking down a missing woman? Will Cookie ever get a true fashion sense? And is there enough coffee and chocolate in the world to fuel them as they do?

My Thoughts: Darynda Jones, you took me for one hell of a ride! I mean this literally. Normally I include a Summary with my thoughts, but the above pretty much states it all and I don't want to give spoilers. I fell in love again, not only with the hot son of Satan Reyes, but also with one bad ass, smart ass grim reaper that kept me on a constant high. I think she is my Idol. I kept seeing parts of me in Charley. There were times I was cracking up so hard, then at the end I started to tear up and still was able to let a laugh pop out thanks to Charley's wicked mouth. This story is a roller coaster ride you won't want to get off of from start to finish. The book's a page turner till the end you're on an adventure with Charley finding people dead and alive, a possible conspiracy theory, and assassins at every turn. I'm telling you now, you will want to grab this book up as soon as it hits the shelves or online store. And once you get it in your hands, you wont be able to put it down.I am on pins and needles till February 2012 for the next installment, Third Grave Dead Ahead. Where i am in no doubt Jones will have us on another adventure that is irresistable, witty and more awesome then the last two. Where Charely and her amazing cast of characters that we cant help but love will once again claim us as their captive audience. I for one am hoping i'm lucky enough to do a review for Third Grave Dead Ahead as well.

Guest Post With John Evans Author of The Fallen

I would like to take the time to introduce a fellow friend and published author, John Evans. I was so happy he agreed to do this guest post. Without further adieu i'll let you read what John has to say to all you lovely readers.

The Fallen actually has an interesting genesis. I began writing the book halfway through my Freshman year of high school, more than two years after a freak accident rendered my computer non functioning, and all my backups of a different work in progress were forever lost to me. From then on, I spent many sleepless and discouraging nights staring blankly at a Lotus Word Pro document into the wee hours of the morning. Then, on a cold morning in December, at about 2:30AM I wrote a single a line; "The Fall was abrupt and sudden", thus setting the stage for one of the most remarkable, and thought provoking pieces I have ever written.

The Fallen is a scifi/fantasy that follows Scout "Striker" Carleson as he faces off against an alien intelligence only known as "The Fallen". In the book, Striker must look past a constant barrage of strange mindtricks, falsehoods, and conspiracies to discover the truth of how The Fallen came to be. However, nothing is ever what it seems, and in uncovering these secrets, Striker must bring himself to confront a far greater evil, and accept a destiny that could spell the end of not just our universe, but the unfinite number of realities that surround it.

The Fallen was written over the course of my high school career, and published less than two years later. With high school long behind me, I have worked diligently on its sequel which is aptly named, The Ascension. I find that inspiration moves like the tide. At times, the tide is out, and inspiration is hard to come by. But if I wait a while, the tide rushes back in and inspiration comes pouring into me, willing these educated fingers to weave words feverishly across the page. It is that very inspiration that is quickly bringing The Ascension to its climax. And as the ink dries on the final chapters, I leave you with an excerpt from The Fallen, and my parting words; Forsake Reality, and I'll Show you a Wonder. Thank you to United by Books for presenting me with this opportunity to share my work with you.

Excerpt: Fireball quietly stepped out from his seat onto the techno-organic surface of the weapons depot. Drawing a knife, he snuck through the shadows, leaving not so much as a footprint in his wake. He quickly jumped up into a tree and peered out from the metallic foliage. The depot was heavily guarded, nearly impenetrable to any normal being. But Fireball wasn't normal. He leaped from his refuge and ran like a leopard chasing its quarry. He saw two guards in a watchtower, stopping him abruptly. He returned to the shadows, praying he hadn't been seen. Seeing how he wasn't swarmed by guards, he charged through the shadows and up to the tower. He scaled the back part and dove into one of the portholes. The guards didn't even have a chance to shriek. Their heads landed with a sickening thud on the floor. Fireball cleaned the bloodstained knife and returned it to its sheath. He dropped down the tower and proceeded to do the same thing to the patrol

guards. Lastly, he visited the generators that supplied the power for the lights and machinery. He placed a small charge at each one and then ran until he was a safe distance away. He reached into his glove, pulled out a wristwatch, and pushed a button. The generators exploded, then all was still. The once noisy depot was plunged into the shadows.

Interview And Giveaway With Lisandra Lantigua

I would like to say Hi and Welcome to United By Books Lisandra, and thanks for taking the time to join us today. I am honored to have you on my blog. Your all in for a treat! You can find my review for Her Slave (Love It Rough) here to check out ~

Review For Her Slave (Love It Rough)

U.B.B~ Tell us a little about yourself?

Lisandra~ Well, Im 25, a mother, wife and i was born and raised in Cuba :)

U.B.B Have you always wanted to be an author?

Lisandra~ Umm, not necessarily. My thing was always art, but when I was around 19 I picked up "Lovers and Players" by Jackie Collins and well, since then I've been a book-whore! It was only a matter of time till i actually put my own story on paper.

U.B.B~ What are your writing habits?

Lisandra~  I try so very hard to have a writing habit, but I've come to realize that my characters only speak to me at night time. Like right before I close my eyes (already laying on my pillow), it's a bit annoying but if i don't write it down they wont let me sleep.

U.B.B~ Tell the readers about your steamy short story Her Slave?

Lisandra~ Her Slave is about a young couple (Nelly & Ryan) who have been together for almost a year but are - i guess you can say stuck- on "vanilla" sex (which there's nothing wrong with btw) and when Ryan (her boyfriend) asks her what's her fantasy she decides to take a chance and answer honestly.

U.B.B~ Did some of your fantasies go into the writing of Her Slave?
Linsandra~ Umm, *blushing* I'd be lying if i said no.

U.B.B~Where did you get the idea for this particular book?

Lisandra~ I just sat down one day and started to write. I didn't dream of glittering men or anything, i just had an idea, maybe a paragraph and it developed into a story.

U.B.B~ Was there any particular author or book that made you want to be a writer?

Lisandra~ Yes, so many actually. But there's this one author in particular (that I contacted after reading one of her incredibly awesome stories) that inspired me tremendously; Jasmine Haynes. She has a way with words that can put you exactly where she wants you to be. But there are many others who inspire me as well: J.R. Ward, Jaci Burton, Shayla Black, Maya Banks, Gena Showalter, Zane, just to name a few.

U.B.B~ What made you think to write Erotica?

Lisandra~ I write Erotica because its a genre that lets you tell all the details, even the juice ones :)

U.B.B~ I know Part 2 Her Master...Love the title just so you know...Care to share a bit about whats in store for us?

Lisandra~ Her Master is Manny and Lucy's present (couple of weeks after Nelly & Ryan's story), with flashes to how they met. They are a serious S/M couple so this book is pretty steamy and has a twist that will lead you to the third of the series, and will also bring closure to Nelly and Ryan.

U.B.B ~ What do you have planned after Her Master?

Lisandra~  The next book in the Love it Rough (LIR) Series is titled: Her Submission (which I am currently writing)

Lisandra would like to giveaway a Ebook copy of Her Slave to one lucky commenter. The giveaway will last through till Saturday the 23rd. On Sunday a winner will be announced. Leave a comment or a question on this post for Lisandra and she will respond. Also please take the time to like her author page.

Title: Brethren Beginnings Volume 1

Description: The Brethren. Who are they and why are they here? Discover the origins of these enigmatic angels manifested on Earth for millennia. Lose yourself in their compelling stories of human salvation and triumph over Evil.

Summary: In this Volume, you will learn the Origins of how the angels come to be, and meet three of them along the journey. Gabriel, who was sent to earth, but didn't enjoy it to much so chose to go back. However, he kept returning to Earth for missions. This last time he decided to stay. Gabriel is a Brethren Protector, so when the person he tasks things to do runs into problems, he makes it his mission to protect him and those around him as well as handling a few bad guys. Then there's Nathanael who is a Brethren Warrior.  Bounty hunter extrordinare by day, Brethren Warrior by night, Nathanael is hired to hunt down three very bad guys who have escaped from prison. The final angel you meet is Cassiel who is a Brethren Savior. Cassiel uses his abilities as a doctor and heals kids. He is called in to help Joy, a young girl who was afflicted by an illness no other doctors could treat...for she isn't sick by the conventional means. Joy has the devil in her and Cassiel helps rid her of it but not before the devil wrecks havoc . But even after the devil is banished from Joy, Cassiel knows there is still trouble brewing on the horizon.

My thoughts: I fell in love with Deena Remiel's, Trinity. I mean seriously, who can resist her angels after that? This book doesn't have any of the romance that Trinity had. I personally loved reading the origins of how they came to be and seeing them on each of there journeys. These angels are fierce and sexy in their own right. Especially Nathanael who I say is my angel given to me by the lovely Deena Remiel. After reading bout him, im so intrigued to see where it will lead. Gabriel and Cassiel are just as fierce and sexy, and before you know it, your in a thrilling ride of seeing them at their best. I cant wait to meet the rest of the angels in the next volumes. Remiel outdid herself in yet another good read that I did not want to end and will be putting in my re-read section.

Review for Her Slave

Title: Her Slave
Author: Lisandra Lantigua

Description: Nelly & Ryan have been dating for a year now, Nelly wants to finally explore who she truly is... with Ryan, but he will have to give himself entirely. Is that something he's willing to risk, or will he leave her hot, wet and single?

Summary: "What's your fantasy?" three little words that had Nelly telling her boyfriend her inner desire. That desire is a sex slave, not just any sex slave, but Ryan as her sex slave. Ryan, you can tell, is excited bout the idea. Needing help to pursue her first experience in being a dom, she turns to her best friend Lucy,  and Lucy's boyfriend Manny for a bit of help. After not hearing from Ryan a few days, Nelly is nervous he wont show and explore this sexy, passionate side of her.

My Thoughts: Lisandra Lantigua has certainly surprised me with this very short read. Talk bout packing a punch of sexual desires in one book. What woman doesn't want to dominate her man from time to time, especially knowing it turns him on just as much? Nelly makes girls relate by wondering if they're daring enough to explore there fantasy side and let their passion rule the bedroom. This book makes me wonder what to expect for part two, and hope that its longer and steamier then this one. I will for sure be checking out the next edition.

Review for Her Hearts Desire

Title: Her Hearts Desire
Author: Lauren Wilder

Description: When Marisa applies for a PA job to an English aristocrat, she expects a stuffy, older gentleman. James St John is anything but. He is an extremely good-looking thirtysomething English charmer. Sparks fly, and the attraction is intense.
Marisa, recently heartbroken, fights her desire, cautious about becoming involved with her boss. But James St John is unable to resist the sexual allure between them, and he will not rest until she is in his bed. Marisa soon discovers that Highcroft house hides a hotbed of sin and dark longings. Will its secrets destroy her happiness when love starts to bloom?

Summary: Marisa leaves work early to surprise her boyfriend for his birthday. What she walked in on was a surprise on her, as she caught him with her friend. Heartbroken, she interviews for a job, with a Lord of all things, to be a Personal Assistant in England. The chemistry between them is instant, and as soon as Marisa is in England, her feelings start to grow, but so do those of the  Lord, James. Marisa witnesses some things she is rather embarrassed about, and also forms a close bond to James children. James is fighting the chemistry and his feelings for Marisa and finds out his brother wants to take her on a date. Which causes James to take the chance, and gets Marisa to go with him. Soon, not only are they exploring London,  but also his private room and their pleasure.

My Thoughts: Lauren Wilder, new on the writing scene, has a winner in this book. She is descriptive and paints the picture of the places she is describing so you can visualize it. The story starts strong and has you sympathizing and really relating to Marisa.I loved the build up and anticipation of when are they finally going to make the move. Their love is sensual, sexy, and tender. Add a cheating sexual deviant of a brother in law who comes onto her, a crazed woman lusting after James, and you have a tail filled with intrigue. I can't wait to see what Wilder will write next.

Review for Expectations

Title: Expectations
Author: Liz Borino

Description: Expectations depicts the struggle between what we desire for ourselves and our familiar obligations. This is personified by Chris and Matt Taylor, identical twins who are trying to win their overbearing father's approval and acquire their trust funds. Their best friend and roommate, Aiden O'Boyle, left his family behind in Ireland to pursue a career in dance.

Robert Taylor, Matt and Chris's father has set certain conditions that must be met in order for them to receive their trust funds. Matt must work at a job he hates while struggling with alcoholism. Chris has to deny his own desires and deep love for Aiden, to get married to Matt's girlfriend. All the while, their father continues to use extreme measures to ensure his sons' compliance. Will they learn to lean on each other and discover their strength or succumb to their father's will?

Summary: Twins Chris and Matt Taylor move into a loft with their long time college friend Aiden O' Boyle after they graduate. The twins are expected to meet requirements put in place by their billionaire dad. Chris must marry and provide a son. Yet he has a secret...he has feelings for Aiden. Matt must work at a marketing company which makes him so unhappy he turns to alcohol. Chris and Aiden see this and tell him to be careful so he starts hiding how much he drinks from them. Aiden also has a secret, but is scared they wont accept him if it comes out. One day Chris finds out  by chance since he is taking Aiden's class...dance class that is. Finding out brings Chris and Aiden closer and love blooms while Matt still fights his inner struggles till he meets Carley. Robert Taylor (dad) meets Carley and offers her father money for her to marry Chris as he still does not know that Chris is with Aiden . Soon he will find out about Chris, not to mention that Matt has feelings for Carley.

My Thoughts: At first I was unsure how I would enjoy this book. Then I was drawn in the very first chapter. Liz Borino creates a world were you see what struggles people fight while keeping secrets. Also what happens once you free yourself of that secret. There is M/M relations that shows love and tenderness not raunchiness. The dad is definitely the villain here, I will admit to getting way angry at him. You will be cheering for Matt as he overcomes his demons and hopefully finds his sense of peace in family connection and growing feelings for Carley. This book makes you want to jump into the next immediately.
