Review for Tempted By Blood by Laurie London

Title : Tempted By Blood
Author : Laurie London

Description: Deep within the forests of the Pacific Northwest, the battle for supremacy rages on between two Vampire coalitions:
Guardian enforcers sworn to protect humanity, and Darkbloods, rogues who kill like their ancient ancestors….

He might be known for his effortless charm, but Guardian Jackson Foss is hiding a terrible secret. For months, he has battled the emergence of his dark nature—deadly urges that threaten to consume him. And those cravings only intensify when he meets Arianna Wells, the human he's been assigned to protect. Smart and perceptive, Arianna doesn't seem like a dangerous temptress. Yet she awakens in Jackson an unstoppable need that, if left unchecked, will brand him a traitor…a crime punishable by death.

But soon their bond may be Arianna's only hope. For stalking her in the shadows is a merciless enemy—one who will stop at nothing to claim her completely….

My Thoughts: This is the third installment in the “Sweetblood” series. We delve more into Guardian Jackson Foss, known as the funny man-whore of the group. He has put a lot of effort into letting people think he is a man whore to cover up the fact that his energy and blood consuming is getting more persistent. Jackson was checking in on the Sweetbloods that he watches over when he runs into Arianna. Arianna's cousin, Krystal,  is a sweetblood he saved a few months before. Krystal reminds him of his sister, so he is drawn to her in that aspect. What Jackson doesn't expect is Arianna and the feelings she evokes in him. Arianna can see shadows walking which just happens to be the Darkbloods, who kidnap her cousin and reminds her of a time when she was younger and her mother. Jackson is there and saves her cousin. They wind up hiding out in the country and things steam up between Jackson and Arianna.

I was worried when I got this book that I might be lost since it’s the third installment. Even though I have the first two, I haven’t been able to read them yet. In reality, this book can be read by itself, but it will make you want to read the previous ones. Jackson was super sexy alpha male with a troubled side as well as the vulnerable and insecure side. He had me swooning so hard all through the book. Arianna was perfect for him. She has sass and called him on his stuff. She wasn't afraid to see what others didn’t. The attraction between them went from a building sizzle to a burning house fire. Seriously, the passion on the pages and in the sex scenes was steamy as hell. I gasped and sighed Jackson's name a few times. I have to say I really loved this book.  Laurie London did a great job with “Tempted By Blood“. It’s a definite read. I will be reading the first two in my pile in the near future and I’m already craving “Seduced By Blood” coming out in July. London has a twist on vamps and brings something new and different. I loved seeing how a vampire/human relationship can cause dormant traits to unleash with a taste of the human’s blood and the bond between them. London's "Sweetblood" series is one to add to your book pile. I would also like to thank Laurie London for sending this book and  letting me review it.

Review for Hell's Phoenix by Gracen Miller

Title: Hell's Phoenix
Author: Gracen Miller

Description: Hell’s become more than just a playground for the wicked…

Going to Hell was supposed to save Madison, but knowing she’s dead because of his failure leaves Nix with only one thing to live for. Revenge. With Micah’s help he learns to use his Messianic power. Anything for Mads has become his mantra, even if it means killing innocents to gather the power he needs to succeed. A tsunami he unleashes on a Gulf Coast city is stopped with magical interference, and Nix is more than surprised to feel Madison in the opposing magic. Can he and Micah set a trap to lure her out?

Pandora’s Box…once you open it, there’s no turning back!

Madison has done the unthinkable, opened Pandora’s Box to save Nix from Hell. And failed. She’s willing to risk her own life to rescue Nix, but she worries about the welfare of her accomplice in the mission and leaving her son behind. Following up on a lead, she’s ambushed by Nix and Micah. Shocked and hurt to discover Nix has become a willing participant of Hell, she’s more certain than ever she won’t escape the demonic fate her husband outlined for her. While in Hell, she discovers denying the emergence of her succubus is futile, which means getting Nix out of Hell after embracing her inner demon just became a very real dilemma…

My Thoughts: The ride in Hell continues! Do you see the burn marks? I was scorched by the fires of Hell for my sins of enjoyment in “Hell's Phoenix” ! Mads has one goal in mind, to get Nix out of hell. And once she sets her mind to something, she doesn't give up until she is satisfied. What Mads doesn't expect is the temptations she must face to save a love she thinks she isn't worthy of having. First, let me say I probably shouldn't have been reading at work because, like any good Hellhound, when a salesperson would ask me something, I would growl at him. I may have cussed out the fax machine for another interruption. If you found “Pandora's Box” one thrilling, Hell ridden ride, then let me tell you Gracen Miller has upped her game in “Hell’s Phoenix“. You see sides of Micah that make you think he isn't as bad as you first thought. Boy, I want him to do bad things to me. Mads is the loving heart, not to mention sassy, sexy and fierce. She knows how to keep the guys on their toes. You see a side of Nix that will make you gasp, but still find him and his love for Mads an enduring thrill ride. Not to mention, he is still that hot Sherlock with an edge, thanks to Hell. Who wouldn't get all swoony over a guy who would go into Hell just to save you? Among the starring roles, Miller brings back the other players we have grown to love and throws in a few extra lust-worthy characters. This read had me on a roller coaster of a gut wrenching, hanging on for dear life ride that I did not want to get off. The sex scenes were insane! Gracen Miller, I am waiting on book 3 “Genesis Queen” and if I don't see it in the near future I may have to do bad things! I should add I was asked to repent, but how could I when I lust for more, like the naughty Hellhound I am!

Interview With GM's Hellish three-some & Giveaway

I had the pleasure of convincing Gracen Miller to let me interview her sexy Three-some Micah, Nix and Mads. What follows is quite the delicious sit-down chat.

Lindsey: I have the sexy trio from the "Road to Hell" series with me today. They were introduced in "Pandora’s Box" and on February 17th—tomorrow—their second story will be released in "Hell’s Phoenix".

-Madison: Thanks for having us, Lindsey. I’ll try to make the boys behave. *flashes teasing smile*

-Micah: Model citizen here. *winks at Lindsey*

-Nix: *ironic laugh* Model citizen in Hell.

-Micah: Lindsey, sweetheart, after the interview, I’d like to talk to you personally and in private about helping you perfect your favorite sins. *slow grin*

Lindsey: *twirls hair around a finger* I’ll think about it, Micah. Will you help me perfect the sin or one of your minions?

-Micah: Me of course.

Lindsey: *naughty grin* Then let’s get this interview started. This question is to all of you…who was your best friend when you were growing up?

-Nix: Gage. He’s more than my cousin. Took the place of big brother and became my best friend, too.

-Madison: Um…I didn’t have any friends. My dad discouraged friendships. Micah would’ve been the first friend I had.

-Micah: I’m still your friend, kitten.

-Madison: *raises eyebrows* Beg to differ, Micah. Friends are more loyal than you have been.

-Micah: Kitten, I’ve been loyal. Always been there even when you thought I wasn’t. As for  friends…Angels were my friends, had a bunch of them. But friends come and go. Brothers are the bedrock of my existence.

Lindsey: I believe him.

-Micah: Smart girl.

Lindsey: *at deafening silence from Nix and Madison, Lindsey clears her throat and continues the interview* What is your fondest memory?

-Nix: Woodworking with my dad and listening to my mom sing off-key while cooking dinner. *smiles* God, she couldn’t carry a tune.

-Madison: The day I gave birth to my son. That is the absolute best day of my life.

-Micah: Meeting our son was priceless. *nods* Nothing can prepare you for that instant connection to such a tiny life. Or the love that is so strong your chest physically aches from  it. After living millennia of years—more than a human can comprehend—I have a lot of moments to pick from. One that doesn’t revolve around Madison or Amos is when I stole my father’s Pyxis. It contained the blueprints for some of his most horrid creatures. *laughs* One of my finest victories there. I’d love to have seen his face when he realized I took it. He’d chosen not to use them, so I decided I would help myself to the chilling monsters inside. *eyes gleam fiery*

Lindsey: *blinks at Micah’s flamey eyes and rushes to the next question* What is your worst memory?

-Nix: Being forced to watch the murder of my father and the rape and murder of my mother. *clears throat and rubs eyes* At twelve, that does a number to your mental stability. I was crazy for a long time. Didn’t talk, was angry at the world. It’s a wonder Uncle James and Aunt Georgie put up with me.

-Madison: Family sticks with you through the tough times, Nix. *squeezes Nix’s arm*

-Nix: *nods without looking at her, but grabs her hand and laces his fingers with hers*

-Madison: *blinks rapidly and clears her throat* When the first guy who showed interest in me died after our first mini-date…absolutely one of the worst memories ever.

-Micah: My worst memory is when I realized Father loved humans more than us.

Lindsey: What is something you had to learn that you hated?

-Nix: Living without my parents.

-Madison: Discovering I was part succubus and my future had been planned for me, down to the minute detail. I’ve still not adjusted to that.

-Micah: *stretches legs out* Playing nice-nice with Father on occasion. I cannot bear to look at Him.

Lindsey: I bet that is hard to play nice-nice with someone you dislike that much. Madison, did Micah have any little quirks that aggravated you while you were married?

-Micah: Correction, sweetheart, we’re still married. And I’m near perfect—

-Madison: *nudges his arm* Allow me to answer. He drank out of the milk carton. Drove me nuts.

-Micah: I’d forgotten about that. *chuckles* She hated when I did that.

Lindsey: Does Nix have any quirks?

-Micah: He irritates me, does that count?

-Madison: No, it doesn’t, Micah. Hmm…*considers Nix a moment* He’s determined to save me at his own peril. But that’s not a minor thing like leaving the toilet seat up. *smiles* Nah…our relationship is too new for him to bug me yet. He sings in the shower and is a terrible dancer, but I think that’s adorable.

-Nix: *dimple flashing smile* Who did you say was near perfect, Micah? *points to self*

-Micah: Ugh…next question please. *makes a rolling gesture with his hand*

Lindsey: Micah and Nix, does Madison have any quirks that drive you crazy?

-Nix: Um…Mads never turns the lights off.

-Madison: *laughs* He’s right, I don’t. Nix is the light police, he turns them off for me.

-Nix: If I lose her in her humongous house, all I have to do is follow the light trail and I’ll eventually find her.

-Micah: My only complaint is Madison’s inability to accept her fate, as she should. *scratches jaw as he considers her* Her stubbornness is charming, but detrimental to her health.

Lindsey: Micah, do you have any special memory from your time with Madison…before you left her?

-Micah: There are many of them. *smiles dreamily* The day I met Madison. Our first kiss, first time we held hands…those little things are remarkable. Unforgettable. I can give you the exact date and time for each one of them. But a particular day stands out and it helped me through the lonely years without them in my life. On my birthday right before I left, I came home to Madison and Amos speckled with frosting. Amos had helped her make me a  birthday cake.

-Madison: *laughs* I remember. You wiped frosting off my nose and licked it off your thumb. You were grinning so big and it’d been a long time since I’d seen you truly happy. I was worried about him, so his reaction was a huge moment.

-Micah: *smiling, he nods* I wish you could’ve seen them, Lindsey. The two most important people in my life looked like they’d lost a fight with a bakery. The kitchen was in  chaos, flour everywhere, sugar spilled across the counter-tops and floor and icing—*chuckles*—the icing was everywhere. Not just on them, but on the cabinets, floor, counters…just everywhere. It was a mixture of blue and purple, so it stood out.

-Madison: Amos insisted on doing it all by himself. When I offered to help, he’d say, “No! Supies Daddy Bifday”, which was two-year-old speak for he wanted to “Surprise Daddy for his Birthday” by baking him a cake. *giggles* I couldn’t resist his enthusiasm…

-Micah: The cake was lopsided. My Madison made a lopsided cake. Can you believe that, Nix?

-Nix: She’s a rockstar chef.

-Madison: *shakes head* He exaggerates. I’m no chef. I just like to cook.

-Micah: *runs his knuckles down her arm* I couldn’t understand the mess until she recounted the events of the cake-baking process with Amos. She laughed so hard it must’ve taken her ten minutes to spit it all out. Amos kept interrupting her with his version, or a nod or squeal.

-Madison: Amos’s first attempt at using the blender spewed batter everywhere.

-Micah: The worst part…there were eggshells in the cake.*groans* Worst cake ever. But those two were priceless.*touches Madison’s chin* Thank you, kitten, for making me feel special.

-Madison: *shrugs* It was a good time.

Lindsey: Sounds like fun.

-Madison: It took me forever to get the icing out of our hair.

Lindsey: Did you eat the cake?

-Micah: Of course. I couldn’t let their hard work go to waste. And I’d rather forfeit my kingdom than disappoint Amos.

-Madison: *dies laughing* I could hear the eggshells crunching as he ate it. I felt so bad for him. Micah was a good sport about it and he never let on that the cake was awful…just awful.Amos went to bed talking about how he surprised his daddy.Good times…*glances at Micah and smile dies away*

-Micah: They’re not over, kitten. *grasps her free hand and places a kiss against her wrist*

-Madison: *looks away uncomfortably and tugs her hands out of both men’s grasps*

Lindsey: Final question…what would you wish for if you found a genie bottle?

-Micah: *laughs* I invented genies. Tricky demons that have served me well.

-Nix: Playing along…I’d wish Micah bye-bye.

-Micah: It doesn’t work that way. And if you wished me to go away, you’d never have met  Madison.

-Nix: *rubs nape* Can’t argue with that.

-Madison: Hmm…whatever I wished for might change something I wouldn’t want altered. Knowing genies are demonic, I’d probably just bury it in cement in a safe location so no one would be tricked by the creature inside.

-Micah: That’s very practical, kitten.

-Madison: *cheeky grin* You were the most insensible decision I made and we know how that turned out.

-Micah: Ouch.

-Nix: Good one, baby. Hit below the belt.

Revealing Eden (Save the Pearls Part One) - Review followed by Interview and Giveaway with Victoria Foyt

Title: Save The Pearls Part One : Revealing Eden
Author : Victoria Foyt

Description: Eden Newman must mate before her 18th birthday in six months or she'll be left outside to die in a burning world. But who will pick up her mate-option when she's cursed with white skin and a tragically low mate-rate of 15%? In a post-apocalyptic, totalitarian, underground world where class and beauty are defined by resistance to an overheated environment, Eden's coloring brands her as a member of the lowest class, a weak and ugly Pearl. If only she can mate with a dark-skinned Coal from the ruling class, she'll be safe. Just maybe one Coal sees the Real Eden and will be her salvation her co-worker Jamal has begun secretly dating her. But when Eden unwittingly compromises her father's secret biological experiment, she finds herself in the eye of a storm and thrown into the last area of rainforest, a strange and dangerous land. Eden must fight to save her father, who may be humanity's last hope, while standing up to a powerful beast-man she believes is her enemy, despite her overwhelming attraction. Eden must change to survive but only if she can redefine her ideas of beauty and of love, along with a little help from her "adopted aunt" Emily Dickinson.

My Thoughts: Eden Newman is considered one of the lowest class with her white skin, classifying her as a Pearl. Always hating not being a Coal and having to cover her white skin, she thinks herself ugly. Eden has a few more months before her 18th birthday to find a mate and she thinks she does in a secret relationship. Then there is her boss, Bramford, Head Honcho with a goal in mind and Eden’s father is the head scientist. Eden discloses some important material to her secret boyfriend which forces Bramford to jump in feet first and becomes the test experiment changing him into a beast-man and they escape into the forest. In this time Eden finds herself drawn to Bramford. Hoping he sees the Real Eden. Ok that is a limited summary I know, but it hits on points without giving spoilers. I will say this, when I first started it was un-like any book I have ever read. I almost put it down because at first I couldn't get over the race part. But Foyt must have drawn me in because I just kept reading and she turned me around in 40 pages. I knew that she made me look at a bigger picture. Her words opened my imagination and created the world she wants her readers to see. Soon I was rooting on Eden in growing stronger. Even though Eden didn't see it, I knew Bramford had feelings for her. She just had to see how beautiful she was on the outside, no matter her skin color. Bramford, went from being handsome and welcomed by many, to half changed into a beast, but still gorgeous in every sense and a man worthy of seeing the real Eden. It was a modern day Beauty and the Beast. Well, modern as in post-apocalyptic. I did not want to put the book down. I wanted to keep seeing where it was going and the romance between Eden and Bramford was steamy. Though this is a YA book, there was a hint of passion in the encounters between them. It was one fast paced, jam packed, keep you on your toes story with action, adventure, betrayal, love, and passion. I am already wanting the next book “Save The Pearls: Part Two ~ Adapting Eden” to see where Victoria Foyt takes us next. I have to admit I fell in love with the whole story. I would also like to thank Sand Dollar Press and Victoria Foyt for the opportunity to review this book and taking me out of my normal reading style to explore a great new world in Revealing Eden.

Interview and Giveaway with Victoria Foyt

1~ Tell us a little about yourself?

I’m both deeply analytical and highly creative. Fortunately, since writing is such a solitary pursuit, I’m a homebodyHowever,I have traveled quite a lot and lived in Europe during my junior year in college. I had a double major in French and Spanish, so I split the year between France and Spain. I love languages, words, reading—communicating ideas and story.

After college, I moved to Los Angeles and began studying acting and writing screenplays. This honed my use of dialogue, location and story structure. I was lucky toco-write and star in several indie films: Déjà vu, Last Summer in the Hamptons, Going Shopping, and Babyfever.

Now, I live in the pretty coastal town of Santa Monica where I have raised two teenagers. I write every morning, nearly seven days a week. When I’m not writing or managing my business, I love to play tennisand spend time with my family and friends.

2~ Tell us please, what's a typical writing day like for you?

The timeworn cliché of a slovenly, drunken writer is 180 degrees opposite from my approach. To me, being a writer requires an almost athletic discipline: clean body, sharp mind, and an open heart. At breakfast, I usually read The New York Times because invariably, I’ll find something to use in my writing, even if it’s only a word. Around 8:00 a.m., I head to my office with a big mug of coffee in hand. There, I meditate to clear my mind. Typically, I set a goal of how many pages I hope to write or edit, depending on where I am in the story. I usually quit by mid-afternoon to attend to phone calls and business. Later, I try to exercise because sitting for so long is hard on the body. And most importantly, I aim for a good night’s sleep so my mind is fresh when I begin again the next day.

3~ Do you have any writing quirks?

Probably more than I realize! I’m very strict about starting to write at the same time. If I manage it, the writing flows. If not, it can be more work than play. It’s as if my muse is conditioned to show up at a certain hour, and punishes me whenever I’m late.

4~ Have you always wanted to be an author?

I always wanted to be a writer; I couldn’tnot write. I wrote a lot of poetry in high school, a practice I returned to whenever my heart brokeI have a lot of poems in a drawer! Of all the forms of writing, novel satisfies me most. It combines my love of language, story and theme. And it is the thing I most dreamed of doing when I was a young girl.

5~ What authors do you admire?

The list of writers whom I admire and who have influenced me is long and varied. I have always been an enthusiastic reader of all kinds of books from romances by Jane Austen and mysteries by Raymond Chandler, to biting social commentary such as Aravind Adiga’s The White Tiger or Lois Lowry’s The Giver. As a teenager, I devoured Ernest Hemingway’s books, and have recently reread many of them. His direct prose and elegant storytelling definitely set the bar. On the other end of the spectrum, I adore Isabel Allende’s lush, more feminine prose and quixotic stories. One of my favorite books is the heartbreaking Love in the Time of Choleraby Gabriel Garcia Marquez. From each writer I have found the courage to find my own voice.

6~What inspired you to write "Revealing Eden"?

Usually a big what if question leads to a story, and this certainly was the case withRevealing Eden. I wondered what would happen if global warming turned today’s prevailing beauty standards upside down. In the story, the loss of the ozone layer has increased solar radiation to deadly levels.Since Caucasianhave less melanin in their skin to protect them from radiation, they have largely died off. The remaining white population is branded as inferior Pearls. Dark-skinned people, or Coals, have more resistance to the Heat, and therefore, now rule society. Eden Newman, a lithe blue-eyed blonde, would be considered gorgeous in our day, while in the future she has to beg for a mate or suffer an early death. The direction in which my wonderings took me greatly surprised me, as it often does.

7~ Let's say your book is being made into a movie, do you already have actors in mind you would want cast? What bands/singers would you want on the soundtrack?

So many readers have commented on what agreat movie Revealing Eden would make that I began to wonder about the casting. I think Elle Fanning would be awesome as Eden Newman. She looks just like her, is the right age, and what a terrific actress. I haven’t come up with anyone for Bramford. If you or your readers have any ideas, I’d love to hear them.

8~ What are the first three things that instantly pop into your mind when you think of "Revealing Eden"?

1.
Interracial relationships
2.
True love
3.
Our dying environment.

9~ Being that Valentine's is a day of love and romance, could please you share a bit insight to the relationship of the characters or perhaps even a snippet?

Eden Newman, an oppressed Pearl with a low mate-rate, feels inferior to her Coal boss, the handsome titan, Bramford. When she unwittingly messes up a secret experiment he has funded, which just may save mankind, they are tossed into the last patch of rainforest. In this strange, dangerous world, they must rediscoverthemselves, and each other. Their preconceived opinions get in the way, but ultimately, as trust grows and they reveal their secrets, love blooms.

The forest sounds dropped away, replaced by the rapid pounding of her heart. Eden forgot the passing scenery and their destination. Only the hot press of his hands on her bare skin, the tilt of his head brushing her inner leg, and her burning ache consumed her. The more pleasure she experienced, the bolder his touch grew. Now his hand trailed up and down the whole of her leg.
She dared to test the boundaries of their body language and flexed her thighs around his neck. Unbelievably, his gait slowed. A feverish thrill shot through Eden. She could guide Bramford with a mere squeeze.
Did she dare push him further? She couldn’t resist the wild urge to flick her hips against his shoulders. At once he picked up speed. She almost squealed—his raw animal power was at her command.

10~ I can tell you I'm a bit anxious already for "Save The Pearls : Part two, Adapting Eden". Is there anything you can share with us about what's coming up next?

At first, the idea of writing a sequel daunted me. As soon as I started, however, the next phase of Eden’s journey from an oppressed, fearful girl to an alpha babe, or Jaguar Babe, captivated me. In Adapting Eden (Save The Pearls Part Two), the past comes back to haunt Eden Newman. If she thought life and love challenged her in Revealing Eden, the stakes ratchet even higher in the next book. She must fight to save those she loves against impossible odds, testing herself beyond her limits—in love and physical strength—while the countdown to humanity’s extinction continues. I’ll tell you, being in her beastly head is a wild, exciting ride!

Are you ready for some quick fun? Choose one answer questions?

Coke or Pepsi? Diet coke with a slice of lemon, very little ice.

McDonald's or Burger King? Just fries, either one.

Chocolate, Vanilla, or Strawberry? Major chocolate addiction!

Paranormal or Historical when reading? Paranormal.

Kit-Kats or Peanut Butter Snickers? Yum, Kit-Kats.

Casual dress or formal attire? Casual, kind of preppy.
