Guest Post and Giveaway with Sabrina Darby

United By Books is pleased to let Sabrina Darby take over the blog to day .......

Thank you for having me! I’m so excited that by midnight tonight my Regency novella, The Short and Fascinating Tale of Angelina Whitcombe, will finally be out in the world. It was actually the hero’s mother who first entered my head and it all started with a blog post(http://www.theballroomblog.com/2011/09/advice-desired-most-urgentbefore I’d ever intended to write this story.
She wants so desperately to have grandchildren and marry off her reclusive, war-scarred son that she’ll go to any length...including hiring him a mistress to make certain he is ready to enter the world of courtship. Of course, such a matter must be approached delicately and so Mrs. Martin decides to post an advertisement in a London newspaper.
Matrimonial advertisements were not at all uncommon in the Regency period. Here’s a true life example of 19th century gentleman’s singles advertisement:Vegetarian, a young man who does not use flesh as a food; a Roman catholic, humble, well-educated, and connected. A lover of temperance, truth, literature, fruit, flowers, and economy, income about £80 a year, wishes for a wife with similar tastes, principles, and income, or as nearly so as possible.––The address with Editor.
These were the Regency equivalent of eHarmony and Match.com.  I’m not certain how often there were ever posts for mistresses, but, naturally, that’s what makes Mrs. Martin’s actions that much more scandalous!
The question really becomes, who will answer suchan outlandish request? What type of lady would not only consider such an option, but also be successful in her work. And can a woman such as my heroine, Angelina Whitcombe, find her happily ever after?
We all take chances in life, whether it’s on the boy next door or on the rakish bad boy. To what extremes have you ever gone to search for love?

 Blurb:

Wanted:

A beautiful young woman—preferably one with no connections, who won't ask too many questions—to spend two weeks in the North of England with an obstinate, aloof, and utterly handsome man.

Must love dogs, fixing up crumbling castles, and gorgeous and complicated war heroes who may or may not be hiding hearts of gold under their gruff exteriors.

Must not, under any circumstances, fall in love . . .

Simpering misses need not apply.

********Excerpt********

He was bare to the chest, and magnificent. Strong, with muscles as defined as if a sculptor had chiseled them from marble, skin glistening from whatever physical effort in which he had been engaged. The clothed parts of him were wonderful too. Her gaze slid down the lines of his hips and thighs, before the place where the superfluous fabric of the trousers obscured what were surely equally fine calves. How could they not be? This man in front of her was some god of male perfection.
“Madam.” There was a hardened edge to that voice, and reluctantly, Angelina lifted her gaze to meet his. Which was obdurate, and yet he smirked at her. As if he were both angry and amused.
“I’m very sorry to disturb you,” she said at last, lifting her hand toward him for assistance once more. She punctuated her words with the smile that had charmed audiences across England. “I’d been told there was a ruined castle to see. I thought it abandoned until I heard that fracas. Help me up, will you?”
He stepped forward out of the shadows and she gasped at the sight of the jagged scar that cut from cheek to chin, twisting his lips up on one side. There wasn’t anything amused about this man looming over her. Now she’d made the situation worse by staring.
At least that shocking feature confirmed without a doubt that this man, who looked the antithesis of shy and sickly, was the very man she intended to seduce. The way he fairly radiated masculinity, this wouldn’t be hard at all. In fact, it would be her pleasure.
“This is a private residence,” he said, even as he reached his hand out. His large, strong, bare hand that made her wish she wasn’t wearing gloves. She placed her fingers on his palm and used her ballet training to rise to her feet as gracefully as possible.
He had a very warm hand.
When she was standing, looking up into that scowling, smirking face, she didn’t let go.
“Yes,” she purred. “I see. Do you live here … alone?”
He snatched his hand away, stepping back. Looked pointedly toward the front door.
Of course, she couldn’t leave. And now that she’d seen him, she didn’t really want to. What she wanted to do was run her hands over his naked skin, lick the small nipples that dotted the fine smattering of hair down his chest. While sexual relations had mostly been an economic transaction for her, while this, at the heart of it all, would be too, she rather thought she’d want to taste this man even if she weren’t being paid.
Which was stupid. Was the way women like her went from being beloved mistresses of
marquesses and earls to roadside whores.
No. She had a job to do.
“I’m in Yorkshire to draw the Dales,” she said into the charged silence. “I’ve stopped at the Golden Lion in the village and they assured me Castle Auldale is as ruined and picturesque as old abandoned castles come. ’Tis a pity I only draw landscapes. You are equally picturesque.”
His eyebrows rose and he crossed his arms, but still he didn’t speak. Just watched her with that expression, which was confused by the perpetual twist of his lips.
“What? Surely you have women fainting in your path wherever you go? You cannot be ignorant of your physical appeal?”
His arms fell back to his sides. He looked deliciously nonplussed. Which meant she had the upper hand. Which meant––he was just where she needed him. Intrigued.
“Who are you?” he said, the words hissing through the air.
“Angelina Whitcombe, and as I said, I’m traveling for the scenery.”
“Traveling alone?”
A prickle of awareness awakened the skin at the back of her neck.
“Yes, in fact, I am.”
His gaze ran down her body, slowly, purposefully, as if he wanted to make certain that she knew exactly what he was looking at.
“A lady never travels alone.”
The best lies were half-truths, so she smiled brilliantly at him.
“Darling, I don’t have much of a reputation left to lose.”

Vampirerotique Summer Book Tour - Character Interview With Sera by Felicity Heaton and Giveaway

Today I am happy to Felicity Heaton back on United By Books for the Vampirerotique Summer Tour! I love this series and find it a pleasure and an honor to be a host.

It’s great to be back here again at United by Books for the next stop in my Vampirerotique Summer Book Tour.

Today, I’m interviewing Sera, the heroine of Seduce, which is the third book in the Vampire Erotic Theatre series. Sera is a very young vampire and was turned only 30 years ago, and while she blushes whenever she sees the stage show at Vampirerotique, she certainly has a wicked side when it comes to private performances with Antoine, her hero. She’s a pretty, warm-hearted blonde with deep green eyes and a smile that can melt even the iciest heart.

FH: I have Sera here with me today to talk about her book, Seduce. Firstly, can you tell us a little about yourself?

SERA: Sure. I was turned a little over thirty years ago by Elizabeth. She was Vampirerotique’s top female performer until she decided to quit. She spent fifty years working at the theatre and it was her idea that we started attending the performances. She’s all about having fun and sometimes I find it hard to keep up. I’m not naturally outgoing like she is, and sometimes I can’t bring myself to watch the things that happen on the stage.

FH: I don’t think that’s just because you’re shy though, is it? *she shakes her head* In Seduce, you meet Antoine. How did you meet and how did you feel about him initially?

SERA: I first saw him during one of the performances. I thought he was just another elite vampire stretching his legs during the show, but Elizabeth caught me looking and explained that he was one of the owners, and an aristocrat too. That revelation explained a lot about him. Every time we attended a performance at Vampirerotique, I found my eye drawn to him. He’s so gorgeous. I don’t think there was a woman in the audience who would refuse such a man anything he desires, and now he’s all mine.

FH: He certainly is, but the path to true love didn’t exactly run very smoothly did it? It was more than a little challenging for you.

SERA: God, yes. Antoine can be very infuriating.

FH: *laughs* Funnily, he said the same thing about you.

SERA: *eyes wide* He did? Ugh, I’ll be having words with him about that later.

FH: He only said that you were infuriating when you refuse to respect him as your elder and an aristocrat.

SERA: *shrugs* I think Lilah has been rubbing off on me. She’s always complaining about aristocrats and elites and the silly politics of it all. Sometimes Antoine and Javier have that look when we’re together... the one that reveals how unimpressed they are by our behaviour and that if we’re lucky they might just punish us later.

FH: If you’re lucky?

SERA: *grins* Well... I can’t exactly call Antoine flexing his muscles and dominating me anything other than a reward rather than punishment... I love it when he goes all alpha on me. I think Lilah loves it when Javier plays the boss too, and that’s why we stir them up.

FH: I think we should probably go back to some safer questions. Your relationship with Antoine is complicated because he closed himself off to feeling. Was it difficult to break down his defences?

SERA: Absolutely. Like I said, he was completely infuriating. When he revealed to me just why he had closed himself off, I began to understand him a little better and I accepted that he had his reasons for keeping his distance. I respected that, but I refused to see why he had to be alone his whole life when Snow had allowed so many people into his heart. There were times I thought I would lose my battle against Antoine but in the end, I found the courage to stick to my guns and I beat down his defences.

FH: You had some help though. Snow can be quite the stirrer too. How has life been since the events that happened and brought you together?

SERA: Up and down. Most of the time things are wonderful between us but there are moments when Antoine just has so much pressing down on him and he can’t handle all the pressure. I’m always there for him then and I do whatever I can to ease his burden. I spend a lot of my time taking care of Snow, so Antoine can focus on the business and his work. I’m no good at the business side of stuff at the theatre, but I can keep Snow company and I know that it eases Antoine whenever I’m with Snow. He prefers it when his brother isn’t alone. We even go for walks around the theatre sometimes and tease the others. Snow loves to tease. He often wants to annoy Antoine when he’s busy and I do my best to stop him but I have to admit that sometimes I let him and we’ll sit in Antoine’s office making observations about him until he grows so irritated that he kicks us both out. Of course, I make up for it all later back in our apartment.

FH: I bet you do. It sounds as though Antoine has his hands full with you. Your story, Seduce, is a book in a series. Can you tell us a little about the series and can we expect see more of you in other stories in this series?

SERA: Well, as far as I can tell, it’s all about some pervert bachelors who run a dirty theatre.

FH: I’m sure they would love to hear you call them that. Be serious.

SERA: *grins* Okay. Whenever I mention the whole dirty theatre thing, they always tell me that it’s tasteful. I generally roll my eyes. Back to the question. I’m in some more of the romances. I really loved it when Chica came to the theatre.

FH: Chica?

SERA: You know, Andreu’s succubus? Apparently, she chose the name. We all call her Chica. Andreu made it law that we’re not to ask her about her real name. When she came to the theatre, it was the most fun I’d had in a long time. Seeing Andreu so stirred up and no one knowing what to do about her. I was angry with Antoine but he honestly didn’t know what would happen and I feel so sorry for him. At least Chica has forgiven him.

FH: Before you give away everything... let’s bring our interview to a close. Describe yourself in one word?

SERA: Infuriating, apparently. *smiles* Antoine calls me temptress. Personally, I prefer determined.

FH: I think you’re all three of those things. Thank you for meeting with me today and chatting. Is there anything else that you’d like to add?

SERA: I’m going to find Antoine’s interview and read it to see what else he said about me. Did he sound stuffy? Sometimes he sounds so stuck up. He doesn’t mean to but he was born a very long time ago, as he likes to remind me. Thanks for having me here! Don’t forget to interview Snow, because he really wants to talk about his story with you, and he’s horribly bored at the moment... and when he’s bored, he’s prone to troublemaking, and with Chica in the theatre, the dastardly duo might just send Antoine into a fit of rage and that isn’t good for his bloodlust. I don’t want to have to kick some butt but I will if they upset Antoine.

FH: Noted. I’ll do my best to distract Snow with his interview. I’m actually talking to you before talking to him, but I believe his interview will air first. It should be interesting at the very least... a bloodbath at most.

They’ve burned for each other for two years, the forbidden attraction between them growing each night. Now resisting the sinful desires of their hearts is becoming impossible.

Javier knows better than to succumb to his hunger for Lilah. The mortal female belongs to a powerful aristocrat patron of Vampirerotique, the theatre he runs with three other vampires. A single touch is all it would take to break the sacred law of his kind, sentencing himself to death, but his passion for her has become too fierce to ignore and he will risk everything to make Lilah his.

Lilah has fought her desire for Javier since arriving at his theatre as a servant but each glance he has stolen, his eyes promising pleasure that will satisfy her longing for him, has chipped away at her defences and she can no longer deny her need and her forbidden feelings for the powerful vampire male.

When they find themselves alone in a private box during one of the erotic performances, will they surrender to their passion and live out their wildest fantasies in a night of wicked pleasure or will the threat of Lilah’s master keep them apart forever?

His mind has been set on his work for the past one hundred years. Now a forbidden beauty has stolen his attention and is threatening to steal his heart too.

Callum has come to the city of romance on business, not pleasure, but when he sets eyes on a gorgeous werewolf in a nightclub, he can’t ignore the dark carnal craving she ignites in him. His work for Vampirerotique, the erotic theatre he runs with three other vampires, can wait. The only thing that matters now is satisfying his sinful hunger for a woman who most vampires would consider an enemy.

Kristina is on the run from her pack. Her alpha is intent on forcing her to bear his child and she’s not about to live through the same nightmare as her mother had. When a tall, dark and sexy vampire catches her eye, she can’t believe the ferocity of the desire he unleashes in her or the fact that she enjoys the feel of his eyes on her and his silent pursuit of her in the clubs each night.

When Kristina finally gets a taste of Callum in a forbidden kiss, will she be strong enough to resist the allure of the vampire and his offer to share his bed for a week of unbridled, wild sex, or will she surrender to her own craving for the safety and passion she finds in his embrace?

Bloodlust runs in his veins, a dark master waiting for the day it will reign over him. Now a woman with a pure soul and wicked intentions has him in her sights and is determined to crack the ice around his heart, and she might save or damn him.

Antoine stands apart from the world around him, a dangerous and broken soul who must maintain rigid control at all times or risk his dark addiction finally seizing hold of him. The shadows of his past haunt him and he sees his bleak future each night when his brother wakes screaming, his blood addiction turning him savage. He cannot allow himself to feel, but when Sera walks into Vampirerotique, the erotic theatre he runs with three other vampires, to audition, she awakens dangerous desires in him—hungers that could spell the end of both of them.

Sera has wanted Antoine since the night she first saw the gorgeous aristocrat vampire. She can’t ignore the deep carnal hunger he stirs in her or the ache to know the heat of his touch. With the help of her sire, an ex-performer at Vampirerotique, she sets in motion a game of seduction, one designed to thaw the ice in Antoine’s veins and make him burn for her.

When Sera discovers the shocking truth about his past and the darkness that lurks within him, will she be strong enough to seize his heart with both hands and win him forever or will she lose him to the ghosts that still haunt him?

 Coming August 4th
His determination to succeed in business has left no room in his life for love. Now, a beautiful and deadly succubus has teleported into his dark, decadent world and is in danger of enslaving his heart.

Andreu’s future entails opening an erotic theatre like Vampirerotique, gaining wealth, women and power, not shackling himself to a single female, but he cannot deny the dangerously seductive succubus who stirs his anger and passion, and tempts him like no other—he will have her.

The moment their eyes meet, Varya knows she cannot have the exotic dark vampire who sets her pulse racing. His shadowed aura marks him as forbidden, but the hungers he awakens in her are too intense to resist—she must have a taste.

When an erotically-charged kiss ignites their soul-searing passion and reveals something dangerous about Andreu, will Varya leave forever or will she dare to risk all in pursuit of something she thought was beyond her reach?

Review for The One by Lora Leigh

Title: The One
Author : Lora Leigh

Description: Brenna's love for Jase has grown from a crush to a soul-searing need, a painful hunger . . . and an unrequited ache, because the savagely sexy Texan doesn't feel the same. A bequest and stipulation in his father's will have hardened Jase, it seems. Now she must endure three months of living under his roof. Three torturous, tension-filled months and Brenna will have fulfilled the stipulation; will be free to attempt to regain the heart lost to Jase so long ago.

Since the age of eighteen, Jase has protected Brenna-from himself, as much as anyone else. Living with her proves too rousing even for his iron will. He'll claim what's his, take Brenna in ways he'd previously only dreamed, sink so deeply inside her luscious body he'll never find his way out. And be damned if he'll let her go.

A scorching Texas summer can't compete with blazing lust as Brenna gives in, gives over, gives all that she is to Jase, to the only man she's every loved . . . to the one

My Thoughts:Brenna has always loved Jase. It started as a crush, and then matured into the love of a woman for a man. While Jase, on the other hand, lusted and cared for her, he thought to protect her so he kept her in the sister category which means hands off. Tired of waiting and watching, by chance on Jase's birthday things go a step further and get a little hot and bothered between them. Once he is able to think again without a lustful mind he backs off and Brenna goes back to life as she knew it at college. Now she is back home to fulfill a part of a will and she must deal with the pain, love, and lust she feels for Jase . But jase is battling the same lust and growing feelings.

Ok, anyone who knows me knows I love Lora Leigh. When I saw this, like all of Leighs work, I had to have it. I just needed to get my smut fix like only Leigh can give me at times. My first thought when I saw the price was wow a bit steep for a short read, but I still bought it. As for the book I actually enjoyed it for a short. I bet it would have been even more amazing if it was longer. I loved Jase cause he had my emotions all over the place about him. One minute I wanted to yell at him, the next I wanted to hug him for that tender side he had toward Brenna, but he had a guard up so he didn't get hurt. The sex was hot. Brenna is great too, except I would have been happier to not have her on the verge of tears or crying too often. I'm used to the leading ladies of Leighs to be just as strong and fierce and confident as the males. I loved her loyalty to do what she had to ensure the farm would stay with Jase even if that meant months of heartache and pain. It showed strength and a bit of backbone. And yet with all that being said I still read this short in one sitting and didn't want it to end. I will always be a fan of Lora Leigh and if you pass up the fact of the price and the leading lady is on the verge of tears a lot it's a good read. Filled with love and hot sex, just how I like it.

3.5 out of 5 stars

Timeless Sojourn Virtual Book Tour - Guest Post and Giveaway with Jamie Salisbury

The Inspiration for Timeless Sojourn

When I first started out writing Timeless Sojourn it was more a personal mission. A lot of what I wrote was threaded in and around events in my own life. The further into it I wrote the more I realized I wasn’t alone. There had to be thousands of other women just like me, women of a certain age who were starting over at a time in their life when they should be relaxing and enjoying life.
That was the basis for the core of Timeless Sojourn. Around that I began to weave in a story of how the main female character, Anne started over and learned once again how to make her own life decisions and how to believe in herself again. Add to that a handsome, cocky, self assured somewhat younger man, Geoffrey to the mix, and the story started to broaden.
I based the story out of Seattle because it was somewhere I was familiar with. I wanted to take Anne away from the place where all the hurt and heartache in her life stared her in the face. I felt most people, especially women would either do one of two things if faced with such a dilemma: they’d either go back to their roots and somewhere they were familiar and comfortable with, or they’d boldly head out for parts unknown. A new adventure.  Anne had too much emotional baggage to get over with first. So Seattle it was.
What I hope is that readers will walk away from Timeless Sojourn with the belief that they can start over and achieve their dreams no matter what period of time they are in their life. It’s never too late.

 Timeless Sojourn
  By: Jamie Salisbury
Recently divorced at a time when most women are enjoying their children being grown, Anne Harrison finds her life in chaos. At the urging of her forever-friend Kat, Anne moves back to Seattle, her childhood home, to get back her former confidence and make a fresh start.

Confident, creative, and a successful businessman, Geoffrey Quinn has depths not immediately apparent to those who come into contact with that cocky, devilishly handsome exterior.

The last thing either is looking for is a relationship. Anne finds Geoff highly irritating (and young!) at best, while Geoffrey finds her magnetic and wise. To his amusement, she futilely attempts to dismiss him each time they cross paths, and sparks fly.

Watch as this seemingly unsuitable, disparate duo lights a fiery, compelling attraction neither sees coming. But who will get burned?

Excerpt :

Kat and I are just finishing up the dinner dishes and getting ready to sit and solve the problems of the world when the phone rings. Kat answers. “Of course, she’s right here. We just finished cleaning the kitchen.”

Geoffrey she mouths to me, handing me the phone.

“Hey, how are you? I asked.

“Great, thanks. I was wondering if you’d like to come over for dinner Friday night. I grill a mean steak.”

“That sounds great, Geoffrey. Can I bring anything, oh, and what time?” I smile at the thought of that killer body slaving over a grill.

“How about if I pick you up at seven, and bring something for dessert, if you don’t mind.”

“That sounds great. I’ll see you Friday.”

I hang up the phone and Kat is standing there with a huge grin on her face.

“You’re going to have dinner at Geoffrey Quinn’s?” she cackles. “You do know he’s falling hook, line and sinker, don’t you? He never invites women to his place.”

“Enough already, Kat! Geoff is young enough to be my son. We simply enjoy each other’s company.” I replied, hoping to shut her up.

“Oh no, Anne, he’s taken with you and you are quite smitten with him, although you’d be the last to admit it. Don’t play the age game crap with me because I know better.” She’s still smiling like a match maker as I turn away, my face warm from blushing.

Author Bio:
Jamie Salisbury cannot imagine a time when she did not write. A skill that has served her well throughout her professional career. Public relations in and around the entertainment industry, photography, editing, and special event planning all elevated her passion for writing.

An avid reader of histories, biographies, and romance, it's only natural that part of the products of her pen are historical romances featuring characters so authentic they spring forth from the page and shake the reader's hand. Many of her teen years were spent in Chile, but she and her family were forced out of the country when the political climate demanded it.

Taking the plunge to take her writing professional came as a result of a series of foot surgeries that left her with a lot of time on her hands. Unable to walk great distances at the time, she started writing as a way to pass the time. Her experiences of how dramatically her life had changed at first. Then the new world of e-publishing inspired her to digitally publish her first novel, Perpetual Love, rather than relegate it to the dreaded drawer. She couldn't be happier with her decision to grab the publishing industry by the shoulders and force it to pay attention to all she has to offer.

Two more novels have followed: Blood Lust and Tudor Rose, with more to follow soon.

Jamie now lives outside of Atlanta, but the love for travel has never abandoned her. Adventure, exploration, and intrigue permeate her prose to the core.

In those few moments of the day when she's not writing or thinking about writing, she finds knitting a way to relax and unwind. Other interests include photography, equestrianism, reading, and of course traveling.

Jamie hopes her writing will entertain, enlighten, and inspire others to pick up the pen and pursue their own dreams. She loves to be contacted by readers, writers, and history buffs.
