Lunch Date with Tina Folsom & Friends with a Ebook Giveaway

Right to Left: Sue Brenan, Tina Folsom , Lindsey Hutchison (me), Lenni Chan

We all dream of hanging out with one of our favorite authors, this dream became a reality for me. Not only did I get to meet one of my favorite authors, Tina Folsom, *insert fan girl squeal here*, but my lovely friend Sue Brennan from Australia was in the San Francisco area. As she is also a big fan, she was with us as well. *insert giddy laugh* You would think I would be over the excitement since its been two weeks, but No, I remember it like yesterday. I have to thank my friend Lenni, for coming with me and joining us. She is new to the romance book world, but I will work on that. Sue, Lenni and I met beforehand to grab up some pics, talking animatedly about the lunch to come, and how excited we were to finally meet Tina Folsom. So the moment we stepped into The Slanted Door, a restaurant Tina picked out, we were super excited to see her. She was there waiting, with her new beautiful blonde hair and gorgeous smile, just as pleased to see us. As we were seated, I sat back and took it all in. It’s not often I am with people I chat with daily on Facebook and admire. I mean seriously, here was one of my best online friends from “Oz” and an author I admire, who was on my blog before. I think I was stuck on Cloud Nine for some of the conversation initially. We all picked the food we would like to test and sat there for a moment. No, not just talking about books, though there was some of that. We made some crude comments about guys. Let’s face it, we aren’t shy to talk about men. We talked about books to check out and we did talk about Tina's books.   As if we would pass up the opportunity. Tina is down to earth, super funny, and a sweetheart. I can say she was the high point of the girls (Sue, Lenni and I) day. Probably even our month or hell, our year. I admit, she is in my top 10. As in top 10 most awesome moments of my life. Though that number may increase with time, Tina will stay on it.  Plus, you can’t go wrong with a sunny, January afternoon in San Francisco chilling at the Ferry building, with good food and even greater company. We did do the fan girl thing and took tons of pics with Tina. Did I mention Tina was awesome enough to give us a book? Oh yeah she did and we took pics of us to post online everywhere we went with her book and *cough* Jimmy. Did I mention Tina said I could be on the next cover? Preferably under Jimmy I told her and I would work for free. She laughed, but I think she is considering it. (No, not really, only in my dreams) If I hadn’t loved her before having lunch with her and my other amazing women, I can’t help to have more love for the work she does and more admiration. In honor of meeting Tina and sharing this with you I am thinking it is giveaway time. I will do an eBook giveaway plus I have a set of bookmarks to go with it. Just follow the rules below.

Review for Hunted by Carolyn Rosewood

Title: Hunted (Seduced by a Demon # 2)
Author: Carolyn Rosewood

Description: For the past four hundred years, Jahi Wickes has made forged documents and credit cards for the female demons who seduce men into signing away their souls. While enjoying the parades at Mardi Gras, she's ambushed by two angels. One is her former guardian angel, and the other is the Nephilim who’s tracking him.

Dagon has been chasing Vassago for three years. His first big break comes in the form of a cute, sexy demon. When he learns the real reason Vassago is hunting her, Dagon has more trouble than he bargained for. Not only was Vassago sent to guard souls in Purgatory after screwing up his assignment with Jahi, but the person who paid him to destroy her is one of her fellow demons.

My Thoughts:
Jahi is a girl after my own heart. We first met her in book one of Rosewood’s “Seduced by a Demon” series. You may remember her as Faina's quirky friend. The one that provides all the documentation for when a demon seduces their mark. As well as outing the evil Mastema and saving her friend. This time we get a bit more inside her world.
Jahi loves Mardi Gras and has attended it every year of her long life, but this year she has a surprise drop-in by someone named Vassago. On top of that is the Nephilim hunting him. Soon Jahi learns the reason why Vassago is after her. It is thanks to her prior life.
What she doesn't bargain for is her instant attraction to the Nephilim, Dagon, who is there to protect her. This attraction is forbidden to both of them. Though they both fight against it, sometimes taking a bite of a forbidden fruit is just too tempting to pass up.
The chemistry and passion between the main characters, Jahi and Dagon, is so hot. It will light your pages or I should say Kindle on fire at times. Carolyn Rosewood pulls you in with intrigue from the beginning. The fact that she builds up the main characters, so you see beyond the passion and sex to the essence of them, is lovely.
You start rooting for them to be able to stay together and not get punished. Jahi tries to appear like the “nothing bothers her” heroine on the outside, but you learn she is, on the inside, just a girl who never thought she deserved much. She gives loyalty, love and her whole un-beating heart to those she cares about and, in Dagon’s case, a lot of hot lovin‘.
In contrast is Dagon, the leading guy that you can't help but like. A strong bounty hunter with deep morals and, obviously, sexy as Hell. A man prepared for anything who never sees what hit him coming when he met Jahi.
Carolyn Rosewood has done it again. Making me want to dive head first into the next book to see if what will happen with Theresa. I know if I was Jahi, I would have taken a bite of the forbidden fruit for Dagon without a backward glance. Vassago makes you mad and Theresa makes me want to shake her. For an author to bring out such strong emotions in her readers, I would say this book, actually the entire “Seduce the Demon” series is sinfully good.

Review for Seduced By A Satyr by Ella Vines

Title: Seduced by a Satyr
Author: Ella Vines

Description: After the death of her husband at Normandy, Darcy’s lived a lonely life, grief threatening to overwhelm her each day. Only the sweet melody of a satyr’s flute seems to ease her heart, yet stir something deep within she thought long dead. Will she succumb to Gillan’s seduction, or continue her solitary life without another man’s touch?

My thoughts: I won't give a summary mixed in with my thoughts as I normally do because the description pretty much says it all. At 12 pages this is a short, fast read. Though I liked where the author was heading with the story, it felt rushed. After grieving a year then finding yourself enthralled with a satyr, who wouldn't want some hot sex. Vines was heading in a good direction if she only would have made it longer it might have hit the mark. The sex scenes were good, it's just the rest. I found myself wanting something more to make the story feel a bit more complete. I think, based on the gorgeous cover and the description, I was hoping for more. I think another 15 or so pages, it would have hit the nail on the head. This does not mean i wont look at more of Vines work in the future cause i will be.

Interview and Giveaway with Carly Smith of Liz Borino's Expectations and What Money Can't Buy

United By Books would like to welcome Carly. Some of you know her as Matt's co-worker turned girlfriend and now fiancé in “Expectations” and “What Money Can't Buy“.

UBB ~Q: Now let's get down to the good stuff.... some girl talk shall we?

Carley~ I'd love to. :)

*smiles*

UBB~ Q: So what was your first impression of Matt when you met ?

Carley : Well, beside from being very attractive, Matt was, is, self confident. He seemed to know exactly what he was doing all the time.

UBB~ Q: That first kiss seemed pretty hot.... how was it, in detail?

Carley: *Blushes* It was very passionate. Things were great back then between us. But...that's to be expected in the beginning, right?

UBB~Q: Matt was your first sexual experience ever, was it all you dreamed about as you grew up?

Carley:  No, actually. It was entirely different. I had only known him a short while. I always envisioned myself as engaged before becoming intimate. Not that he forced me, but my desires got the better of me....

UBB~Q: When you found out you were pregnant what was your first thought?

Carley:  I was terrified that my family would disown me, which eventually they did. I have to admit that I was also worried about Matt's addiction problems. I mean, what kind of father could I expect him to be? However, he turned out to be a wonderful dad to Dorothea. She adores him....

*taps fingers on desk wondering if I should ask the next question*

UBB~ Q: So I know Matt doesn't have the best track record and all, but do you think, in hindsight, you over-reacted on certain things while being preggo?

Carley:  Maybe I did, but I was only trying to protect myself and my daughter. If he had been drinking or cheating I still could have gotten out.  I don't know if you're aware, but during my overreaction he abused prescription pills.

UBB~Q: Even now that you have given birth you can't blame your mood swings, so why are you acting like a crazy person to Matt?

Carley:  Because my daughter, the one who I carried, wants him instead of me. All the time. Do you know how that feels? All the while he isn't cooperating with having a Catholic ceremony. That should be the most important thing.

UBB~ Q: Some would say that the reason your acting out and accusatory is because of a guilty conscious. Does this apply to you?

Carley:  What are you talking about?? It's him and Dorothea. I'm sane

*tilts head to the left*

UBB~ Q: You know when I was first getting to know you I liked you, cheered you on, but I’ve seen a whole new side of you that I'm pretty sure I don't like. Would you care to say anything to the readers today?

Carley: I think you've said it all.

Thanks for taking the time to join us today on the blog Carley i can safely say it's been interesting speaking with you!

Relic by Deena Remiel Virtual Blog Tour and Giveaway

United By Books is pleased to have had the the chance to sit down and chat with author, Deena Remiel about her angels. This is what came from our candid discussion about her upcoming, new release "Relic" available January 27th of this year.

*sits down, getting comfy to speak with one of my favorite authors about her upcoming release with an overwhelming feeling of excitement*

UBB: So, it looks like it's just you and me, sexy lady.

Deena: Niiiice.

UBB: *waggles brows*  Ready to spank me? *coughs* I mean chat with me about "Relic"?

Deena: So, let's roll

UBB: So *takes a sip of water* how do you envision these sexy angels of yours?

Deena: Well, I see them as massive walls of hunky, well-hewned flesh clad in leather pants, boots, wings and a sword. Just to start... Chiseled faces, mesmerizing multi-colored eyes, piercing gaze, complicated histories

UBB: *nods* Well, I see them as walking sex objects for all of us to ogle over and get all lusty about while they save us.... but we can go with your's.

Deena: *laughs* Oh, I think yours blends perfectly with mine!

UBB: *big smiles* Great minds think alike..... only you're the awesome author who brought it all to life for us readers and we are itching for our next angel fix... which is "Relic". Want to tell us a bit about what is coming our way?

Deena: *nods readily with a smile* Sure! Raphael, Brethern Savior, was left shaken by his failures at the end of "Trinity". He has a mission to complete, but knows that he has some serious problems to work out first... like how to get his healing powers back. He runs into a woman left for dead in the Arizona desert and has no choice but to do the right thing. There's a relic that winds up playing a huge role in bringing the two of them together. And his dead wife's soul, trapped in the relic,  tags along. Three souls, bound by  a relic, bound by an timeless gift, and bound by an eternal love.

UBB : *eyes wide* WOW! Now you have me really anxious for Raphael. Can you tell us more about the woman he runs into by chance?

Deena:  Sure, her name is Serena, and she owns Sikes and Sounds of Sedona, a jeep tour company. Her brother gave her the relic in question, but it's actually stolen. I forgot, Raphael does the right thing and takes her to the hospital. *laughs*

UBB:  *laughs* *pauses to wonder if I should sneak in a question* So you created Callie for Nathanael ("Elixxir"; book 3) with me in mind didn't you?

Deena: *laughs and grins at my silliness but goes along with it* But of course...

UBB: Do you have a favorite out of all your gorgeous angels?

Deena: Great question!  Love Michael because he's my first. But Raphael is so freakin' sexy! Whew! And then there's Nathanael, who's such a tortured soul, and Gabriel, so reserved that I wanna make him come undone... Um... I guess we can say I can't decide! *laughs out loud*

UBB: *nods with understanding* Well, I can completely agree with you on that. Though as you know I claim Nathanael.

Deena: You do have claims on him, since I gave him to you. But you will need to share a little with the hords of women clamoring after him.

UBB: *pouts*

Deena:*laughs at the pout*

UBB: Is there anything special you want to share about what you are working on in the future?

Deena: *sly grin* I'm currently working on Nathanael's story. It's called "Elixxir". Raphael may be messed up, but Nathanael is a man on the edge. He's got the perfect woman to sharpen that edge, too.

UBB: *gasp* You're such a tease!

Deena: And my lips are SEALED!

UBB: Not even a snippet? *puppy dog eyes*

Deena: Not from "Elixxir", nope.

UBB: *thinks* Then how about a snippet of "Relic"?

Deena: I would LOVE to tease you with Raphael and Serena...

UBB: *waits impatiently*

Deena : Here ya go... Serious snippage right now

When Serena looked at his chiseled face, she lost herself in its symmetry and the beauty of his eyes. Two pools of brilliant blue, like the Aegean Sea, stared intensely at her through long black lashes and made her cheeks flush. For a breathless moment, she dared to stare back only to retreat seconds later. “I…I’m so tired, Raphael.” “I should go then.” He dropped his hand from her cheek. “Please don’t,” she blurted out before she could stop herself. “I mean, I know I have a guard at my door. But they’re zero and one, and you’re two for two. I’d just…I’d feel more comfortable if you were here. Can you…would you…consider staying? Only until I fall asleep?” She felt an irrational need to have this man near. This stranger. But for some reason, the doctors and nurses felt more like strangers than he did. “Yes,” he answered without hesitation. “I’ll stay.” He stroked her hair softly, lulling her to calm. “Now close your eyes and sleep. Tomorrow will take care of itself. You’ve nothing to fear tonight.”

UBB: Does Raphael have anything he wants to say to his fans?

Deena: He would like to ask them to be patient with him as he works through his issues. He can't wait to live in their kindles, nooks, and other e-readers, and then on their book shelves!

UBB: Would you like to say anything to your adoring fans ?

Deena: I would like to tell my fans how much I ADORE THEM! I write for them and created this world of the Brethren for them. So, my Disciples, my Inner Sanctum, and my Street Angels are my life's blood. I love you all and feel blessed to know you.

UBB: "United By Books" has loved having you on today talking about your angels.

Review for The Calling by Ashley Lynn Willis

Title: The Calling
Author: Ashley Lynn Willis

Description: Mandy Hardy lost more than a breast to cancer; she lost her fiancé when he dumped her a week before her mastectomy. Her ego bruised and her self-esteem battered, Mandy’s sure she’ll never fall in love again.

Justin Seward is a headstrong Coast Guard Rescue Swimmer with a heart of gold and the supernatural ability to command the seas. He had to hide his feelings while Mandy was engaged to his best friend. Now that she’s free, he’s vowed to make her his.

Together, they may hold the key to each other’s salvation. But when Justin’s past catches up with him, and Mandy’s ex-fiancé wants vengeance, they realize they might not live long enough for happily ever after. The Calling is a 360 page contemporary romance with a paranormal twist.

My thoughts: Where to begin? I really enjoyed this book. It wasn't fully what I expected, then again sometimes it's good to be surprised. Mandy, the heroine, of the stories, goes though breast cancer, a mastectomy, and her fiancé, Ty, leaving her while this is all going on. Justin, was Mandy’s ex's and Ty's best friend, but always had a thing for Mandy. When Mandy and Ty broke up, she separated herself from Justin as well. Then fate intervenes, bringing Justin and Mandy back together. Justin is a coast guard rescue swimmer, but he is more than that, he has a power! The power to control the ocean though he doesn't let anyone in on that secret. One daring rescue of a father and boy and a visit to check in on the boy afterward, leads to him and Mandy reconnecting as Mandy is the boy’s nurse. Mandy, one bitten twice shy, is scared to let anyone in or close, especially if the cancer may return. After a few outings with Justin, Mandy can't help but wish for more. Justin, puts it all out there. How he wants her to be his, though he holds back the most important part. Ty try's to get Mandy back once he sees things are serious between Mandy and Justin, but she won't have it. Eventually Justin tells Mandy his secret and they face a few incidents that they need to overcome. We learn how Justin got the powers to control water, but I won't share that in this review as I thought that was a pretty interesting and cool part of the book. He does get hurt real bad and has recovery time, so this is not your typical paranormal flare. This was more contemporary than paranormal, but it still had light paranormal. Ashley Lynn Willis did a great job for making Mandy seem so real and a leading lady I personally love. Though toward the end I wanted to grab Mandy and shake some sense into her, I was happy at the conclusion. Justin is so sweet, sexy and protective with all the other great characteristics you want in a guy, including the extra special-ness of controlling the ocean and to top it off he is a coast guard. The passion between the leading characters heats up the pages. The love for each other is felt. I enjoyed the side characters such as her best friends. However, one of them I would have tossed to the side after some vital information is learned. Don’t get me started on Ty, you will definitely love to hate him. When an author can bring out these kind of emotions from a reader, then they have done a good job in my book. After all, I couldn’t put “The Calling” down. Over all, for Willis’ first book, I really enjoyed it and I'm looking forward to seeing more from her in the future.

Review for How To Seduce A Billionaire by Kate Carlisle

Title: How To Seduce a Billionaire

Author: Kate Carlisle

Description: New hairdo? Makeup? A dress? Where did his efficient secretary go? Because the woman in front of Brandon Duke is not the Kelly Meredith who left on vacation two weeks ago. He is shocked— and curiously enchanted—by her transformation.

She says this makeover is all part of her plan…to become more seductive. And this billionaire is just the man to give his suddenly sultry assistant a few lessons in love. He'll go slow, savor every moment and then say goodbye—as long as he can remember just who is seducing who!

My Thoughts: Top notch and indispensable secretary Kelly goes on vacation to return as a stunning beauty that leaves her boss, Brandon Duke, reeling from the impact. Kelly got made over to make a impact on her ex, who would be in town on business. What better way to get back at a ex than make yourself up and get yourself tutored in the art of seduction. The tutor just happened to be Brandon, her boss, after finally seeing what he shockingly hadn't noticed in all the years they had worked together. Over all, reading this Harlequin Desire by Kate Carlisle brought me back to what got me started in romance at the young, tender age of 13. I loved the characters. You see the brothers and their wives, from the previous book, brought into play in this novel, as well as a loving yet, meddling mom, whom you can't help but be fond of in the end. There was the passion and romance that kept you hooked, not to mention you can connect with the leads. The vulnerable, slightly naive leading lady and the irresistibly handsome boss, who’s first kiss was so intense that it had me swooning. “How to Seduce a Billionaire” is part of a Harlequin Desire trilogy by Kate Carlisle. This story is connected to “The Millionaire Meets His Match” (July 2010) and “Sweet Surrender, Baby Surprise” (December 2010).This book can be read as a stand alone, but I don't think you will want to miss out on Kate Carlisle’s Duke brothers and their stories.

Review for Infinite Betrayal by Gayle Donnelly and Robyn Mackenzie

Title : Infinite Betrayal
Authors: Gayle Donnelly and Robyn Mackenzie

Description: Mina Roarke had always been told she was special. In what way, she never fully understood until circumstances led her down a path of adrenaline-charged danger, blazing sexual heat and ultimate betrayal.

Mathias, a warrior for a secret shifter race known as The Coteri, has been ordered to protect Mina at all costs. Although his oath to protect her is paramount, can he rein in his animal instincts long enough to not claim the one person he’s forbidden to have?

My Thoughts: Wow! Where do I start expressing how much Gayle Donnelly and Robyn Mackenzie pulled me into the world of the Coteri and had me falling in love left and right! “Infinite Betrayal” is a new shape shifter experience. In this novel they are called Coteri and though they have one prominent go to for shifting, they can also shift into other things as well. After the death of her mother, Mina is lost and hurting only to discover letters which will lead her to a life changing move. With the help of her longtime and closest friend Chloe, she reads each one and realizes they are from her father, whom she thought was dead. Chloe helps give Mina the push to find her dad and  hop on a plane, ready to get answers. Mina heads off to Germany and once there she is drawn to the woods by a beautiful wolf. This is where Mathias, the oh so yummy Coteri General, enters the picture. Mathias can’t help but be drawn to Mina, torn between honor and duty and his heart’s passion, he tries to fight it. After all, he is King Roderick's (Mina’s father) most trusted warrior, sent to look after her and keep her safe. With one kiss, his passions rise and the need to claim is upon him. Does he break the Coteri law and mate a human or will he let her go? This book had me so hooked from beginning to end. I even fell in love and wanted stories for all the other characters you’re introduced to such as Talon and Tre, who have you laughing with their banter. The passion was so intense and sexy between Mathias and Mina, you could literally feel the emotions from the characters in all the right places. Gayle and Robyn also have villains in the book called the Valta, who would like to destroy the human race, but are stopped by the Coteri. The Coteri are here to protect us, so we have no worries since these warriors are so fierce. You will hate the Valta and cheer for the Coteri. Mina is the leading lady to love, being vulnerable yet sassy and when need be, fierce. Mathias is the hero you swoon over. His dominate, alpha manner thrown in with tender moments for the woman he loves. If you haven’t read “Infinite Betrayal”, I urge you to do so, for your “Infinite Surrender” (next book in the series: Talon's story). Fall into Gayle Donnelly and Robyn Mackenzie alluring Coteri world, you won’t regret it.
