Vampirerotique Winter Blog Tour ~ Character Interview with Callum by Felicity Heaton and Giveaway

Interview with the charming elite vampire Callum from Crave by Felicity Heaton

It’s great to be here today at United by Books as part of my Vampirerotique Winter Tour celebrating the series and my latest release, Bewitch.

Today, I’ll be talking to the hero of the second book in the Vampire Erotic Theatre romance series, the very suave and charming Callum.

Callum is an elite British vampire who attended school with Javier and has been friends with him ever since. He has an eye for detail and works in Vampirerotique as a talent scout and is in charge of the performers. Working closely with the acts that happen at the theatre has led him to embrace his passionate nature but hasn’t changed him and he’s still driven by his emotions, valuing love over lust. At one time, he was responsible for sourcing the humans for the shows too, but has since contracted out that job. Callum loves the theatre and his position, and he’s dedicated to both, but that dedication is put to the test when he sets eyes on a sassy werewolf and she ignites a forbidden carnal hunger in him that he cannot ignore.

Read on to find out more about it from the vampire himself.

FH: I have Callum here with me today to talk about his book, Crave. Firstly, can you tell us a little about yourself?

CALLUM: I’m an elite vampire and co-owner of Vampirerotique, an erotic theatre that caters exclusively to vampires. I came up with the idea together with my friend and fellow elite vampire, Javier, around a century ago and we then decided to approach Antoine and his brother Snow because we needed some aristocrat vampires… um, I suppose you would think of them as pureblood vampires… it means they don’t have any human blood in their family. Elite vampires have turned humans or other species in their family tree. Where was I?

FH: You approached Antoine and Snow.

CALLUM: Thank you. We needed aristocrats as co-owners of the theatre so aristocrats would attend. If we didn’t have any aristocrat names on the door, they wouldn’t come. We knew if the theatre was going to be a success, then we had to have both elite and aristocrats running it.

FH: That’s great, and very informative, Callum, but I think you’ve slipped into describing your theatre *smiles*. How about you tell us more about yourself?

CALLUM: *smiles too* I apologise. The theatre has been my life and my focus for so long that it’s now my habit to slip into talking about Vampirerotique whenever someone asks me about myself. I grew up in Britain, and attended one of the best academies where I met Javier. We have been friends ever since, even when he returned to Spain. I work with the performers at the theatre because I have an eye for talent, and was once responsible for sourcing the ‘victims’ of the seductions too, but have since passed that business off to a company. We responsibly source our human performers, and *leans towards me and whispers* it’s a secret… we don’t actually kill them. They sign a contract and we pay them. They know what they’re getting into, but they don’t know they’ll be doing it under thrall and what they’re doing it with.

FH: I’m sure we can all keep that a secret. We wouldn’t want your audience finding out you all have soft spots for humans.

CALLUM: It isn’t so much that we have soft spots for humans. It’s just easier and less messy if we don’t kill them.

FH: Before you start slipping into talking about the theatre again, let’s get your focus back onto your romance. In Crave, you meet Kristina. How did you meet and how did you feel about her initially?

CALLUM: It was very difficult for me… for both of us, really. Kristina is a werewolf, and in the eyes of most vampires, that makes her an enemy. I was in Paris scouting for performers for a new show when I first saw her in a nightclub, and my attraction to her was instant and I knew it was wrong… or at least, other vampires would say it was wrong. It felt right to me. She’s beautiful. I knew I had to have her but I tried to resist my desire for her. It was futile in the end. I found myself stalking her in the clubs each night, tormenting myself by watching her dance with other males, all the while unable to find the strength to approach her and satisfy my deep craving for her.

FH: It sounds as though you really had the hots for her. You mention that because she’s a werewolf, it makes your desire for her complicated, and forbidden in a way. I’m sure she felt the same way. Was it difficult at first?

CALLUM: I don’t think difficult is a strong enough word to describe it. Imagine trying to go against everything you were raised to believe. We both felt our feelings were wrong because we had always been told that. It was Kristina who finally approached me, and when we kissed, I knew that just one taste of her wouldn’t be enough. I defied convention and pursued her, and it wasn’t easy. Kristina has darkness in her past that took time to get over. I had to win her trust but I wasn’t afraid to do whatever it took to get her into my arms.

FH: How has life been since the events that happened and brought you together?

CALLUM: Interesting, to say the very least. Kristina has spent a lot of the time living in a suite at The Langham and I used to go there each night after work. It became my home too, but I really missed living at Vampirerotique with my friendsI didn’t want to rush her though, not after everything she went through. She believed that she was safe from vampires and werewolves alike at the hotel, but I feared that something would happen and place her in danger.

FH: But she has come around now and you got your wish.

CALLUM: Yes. She recently moved into the theatre and we’re going to stay there now. She’s finally comfortable with living there because there are many other females from all manner of species who have moved into the theatre, and all of them would protect her.

FH: So it all worked out in the end. I’m glad that she’s decided to move into the theatre and become part of the family. Your story,Crave, is a book in a series. Can we expect see more of you in other stories in this series?

CALLUM: I believe you will see me in most of the stories in the series, but there might be the odd one where I’m away for most of it because I’m often out of the city looking for performers, and I’ve been spending an increasing amount of time with Kristina. I’m sure that readers won’t miss me. They’ll be too caught up in the craziness happening at the theatre. There always seems to be something happening there these days.

FH: Very true, especially since the two new men arrived, Andreu and Payne. Andreu seems to attract trouble. Describe yourself in one word?

CALLUM: Courageous.

FH: Having read your story, I can believe that. Is there anything else that you’d like to add?

CALLUM: Only that I hope you’re interviewing my love, Kristina, and that she behaves herself when you do. She’s having minor mood-swings at the moment, but she’s normally much calmer around anyone who isn’t me.

FH: I can understand that and I’ll just arm myself with chocolate, sausages and other good food to keep her happy. Thank you for meeting with me today and chatting.

CALLUM: It has been my pleasure. Thank you for having me.

I hope you have all enjoyed this insight into Crave and life at Vampirerotique through the eyes of one of the sinfully sexy heroes!

Felicity Heaton
His mind has been set on his work for the past one hundred years. Now a forbidden beauty has stolen his attention and is threatening to steal his heart too.

Callum has come to the city of romance on business, not pleasure, but when he sets eyes on a gorgeous werewolf in a nightclub, he can’t ignore the dark carnal craving she ignites in him. His work for Vampirerotique, the erotic theatre he runs with three other vampires, can wait. The only thing that matters now is satisfying his sinful hunger for a woman who most vampires would consider an enemy.

Kristina is on the run from her pack. Her alpha is intent on forcing her to bear his child and she’s not about to live through the same nightmare as her mother had. When a tall, dark and sexy vampire catches her eye, she can’t believe the ferocity of the desire he unleashes in her or the fact that she enjoys the feel of his eyes on her and his silent pursuit of her in the clubs each night.

When Kristina finally gets a taste of Callum in a forbidden kiss, will she be strong enough to resist the allure of the vampire and his offer to share his bed for a week of unbridled, wild sex, or will she surrender to her own craving for the safety and passion she finds in his embrace?

All of the books so far in the series are available in paperback, and in ebook from Amazon Kindle, Apple iBooks and Kobo. Covet, Crave, Seduce and Enslave are available from Barnes and Sony Reader too. Bewitch will be available at those retailers soon. Excerpts are available for all of the current releases in the series, so you can get a taste of these wicked erotic romances.

I loved this series, and this book is one of my faves. I love that they are not supposed to be with each other, since he is a vampire and she is a shifter (supposed enemies) but they still are just so attracted to each other. GREAT story :)

Felicity where do you get your ideas for each of your awesome characters?

Felicity Heaton said...

@ Olivia - Kristina and Callum appear in Unleash, and it was great having them back in the series.

@ Julianne - I'm not sure what the hardest thing about writing is. Sometimes I can get writer's block but the solution for me is always either one of two things. I have to read everything I've written for the book so far to kill my demons of worry that it's no good, OR I have to think about the scene and plot it out in more detail. Normally, I'm back to writing after that.

@ Jovhanna - My characters tend to just stroll or burst into my head and demand I pay attention to them! More often than not, it's the heroes who come to me first and they're normally the ones with the most to say about the book.
