SHADOW'S EDGE
Night Prowler, #1
Night Prowler, #1
Available at: Amazon
Deep within the primeval
forests of southern England, a race of beautiful, savage shape-shifters lives
hidden from the everyday world. Bound together by ancient bloodlines and a
ruthless code of secrecy that punishes traitors with death, the Ikati send their
leader Leander on a mission to capture one raised outside the tribe before she
can expose their secret. When Leander tracks the unsuspecting outsider to
Southern California, the hardened warrior is prepared for a fight—but not for
the effect the sensual young beauty has on his heart.
Jenna spent her childhood in
hiding, on the run from someone—or something—her parents refused to discuss. She
trusts no one, not since her father’s mysterious disappearance, not since her
mother’s sudden death, and definitely not since she began exhibiting strange,
superhuman abilities. When handsome, enigmatic Leander appears, promising
answers to the mysteries that shroud her past, she knows she shouldn’t trust him
either. But their connection is undeniable, and as powerful as the enemy
hell-bent on destroying every one of their kind…

There exists a world
beyond our own. It is a world of ancient magic and well-guarded secrets, a world
of strict laws and harsh punishments for those who betray them, a world
inhabited by the Ikati, a race
of gifted people who are so much more than they first
appear. Brought together by fate in this world of danger and beauty, two people
with dark pasts will meet.
Morgan is beautiful, smart,
sexy…and about to die. Convicted of treason against her shape-shifting kin, she
is given one last chance at redemption; discover the hidden lair of the enemy
intent on destroying every one of her kind, or forfeit her life.
Xander is ruthless, heartless, cold-blooded…and assigned to kill her if she
fails in her task. Expecting to feel nothing but contempt for the traitor under
his watch, the assassin accompanies Morgan on her search, but as the two race
through the heart of Italy while the clock winds down to zero hour, he finds
himself drawn into a dangerous web of desire as powerful as it is forbidden.
Their passion will test everything they believe in, and endanger the future of
the tribe itself.

SECRETS…In the hidden world that exists beside
our own, a mirror world of ancient magic and elegant deceptions, a world of
people who are so much more than they first appear, a war is brewing. Most of
these Gifted people—the Ikati, a
savage, sensual race of lethal predators—are content to hide behind human
smiles, disguising their splendor in order to survive. But others are
discontent. And they will hide no longer.
BETRAYALS…Eliana lives for two things only: vengeance on
the man who killed her father, and seeing his dream of living in the open with
humans come to pass. But that dream is far too dangerous for The Hunt, a group
of elite Ikati assassins with one
objective: eliminate her before she can expose their secrets to the
world.
SEDUCTION…Demetrius is haunted by the memory of
the woman he once loved. He will risk everything to save her from the killers on
her tail…and convince her, before the ancient walls between two worlds crumble,
that only together can they defeat their real enemy, a brilliant, cunning
traitor far more deadly than either of them can guess.
******** INTERVIEW ********
United By Books is pleased to have J.T.
Geissenger on the
blog today so we can learn more about her amazing
books........
1 ~ Can you please
share with us a little about yourself?
I’m a native of Los Angeles and live there with my husband
and four rescue cats. My husband and I own a flower shop, and when I’m not
working there I’m working on my next book! I’m addicted to Game of Thrones,
Dexter, buying books on my Kindle, vanilla lattes and Red Bull, I’m a terrible
driver, I hate exercise of any kind, and I’m a magnet for stray animals. (I think I was a stray cat in
a past life.)
2 ~ Please tell us a
little about your newest release ?
Rapture’s Edge is book three in the Night Prowler series.
It’s set in Paris, and our heroine Eliana is an art thief and competitor in the underground fighting
circuit of the city. It’s been three years since she last saw her former lover,
Demetrius—standing over her dead father’s body with a gun. In the meantime,
she’s been in hiding,
planning revenge. She’s caught by the police trying to steal a painting from the
Louvre, and Demetrius—who is desperate to explain himself, and still madly in
love with Eliana—comes to her rescue. Only she’s not having any of his
explanations—she just wants to kill him! Making matters worse, an elite band of
assassins have been dispatched by the leaders of the other Ikati colonies to
kill Eliana because she could expose their secrets to the human
world.
3~ Would
you like to share an excerpt with us today?
This is a scene in which D and Eliana, who haven’t seen each other in three years, reunite in one
of the weekly underground fighting matches in Paris that Eliana participates in as a way to earn money. (She’s much stronger
than the humans she typically spars with.) When D shows up, all bets are
off!
She twisted out of his grasp, using all her strength to tear
free. But he had her again in an instant and pinned her arms behind her back.
Heady and warm and masculine, the scent of his skin flamed hot in her nose as he
leaned down and whispered into her ear, “You’re not trying very hard. You need
to give the crowd their money’s worth. Butterfly.” She felt the fleet brush of his lips across the flesh of
her shoulder, and then he released her and sprang away.
She
whirled around with a savage snarl. He was on the other side of the space
cleared by the circle of bodies, hands on his hips, staring at her with a heated
expression somewhere between amusement and anticipation. He stretched a hand out
and crooked two fingers at her, a silent command.
Come.
Oh no. Oh no he didn’t.
Fury
blinded her, and she went on pure instinct, striking out, hitting, kicking. The
next few moments were a blur. There was the sensation flying, of falling, of
gravity spinning away. Her hands were around his throat, his hands came around
her waist, and suddenly she was flat on her back in the center of the fighting
ring with Demetrius straddling her body, his hands pinning her wrists to the
ground above her head.
The
roar of the crowd was deafening.
He
grinned down at her, victorious, and then, before she could scream the curse
that was on the tip of her tongue, his mouth was on hers.
Ache
and salt and softness, the ground cold and hard against her back, Demetrius warm
and hard against her chest, pulling greedily at her lips, drinking deep…the
sharp edges of her fury began, awfully, to melt.
He
pulled away first, panting, flipped her over, and in one horrifying, fluid
movement, flung her over his bent knee so she was staring in shock at the dusty,
scuffed ground.
And
then—horror of all horrors—he spanked her.
In
front of everyone.
Three
times.
Hard.
The
crowd went absolutely insane.
“That’s
for every year you were gone,” D growled, bending near her ear. She kicked and
screamed, fighting him, but he held her fast, immovable and ironfisted, trapping
both her hands in one of his, leaning his weight onto her back with his
forearm.
Then he
spanked her another three times. Her scream of outrage was drowned by the
delighted, uproarious cheers of the spectators.
“That’s
for calling me a liar, a murderer, and a traitor.”
Her cheeks burned molten hot. She couldn’t
get away,
she was at his complete mercy—
He
spanked her again, three more hard, humiliating times, then lifted her up, took
her in his arms, and said, “And that’s for the next three things you’re going to
do that will annoy the hell out of me.”
Then he
pulled her against him and kissed her again, in full view of everyone, his hands
in her hair and his mouth hot on hers and a low purr of pleasure rumbling deep
in his chest.
4~ What's in store
next for your readers?
I’ve just completed book for in the
series, Edge of Darkness, and I can’t wait to share it with you! Set in Barcelona,
it’s the story of Christian and Ember, a shifter and a human, who fall in love.
Unfortunately, Christian is on a very dangerous mission to kill the leader of a
rebel shifter group, and falling in love with a human is strictly prohibited by
shifter law. They’ve got everything going against them, and when Ember is
targeted by the leader of the rebel group, things go from bad to
worse. It’s
fantastic.
5~ What's the weirdest
thing you've ever done in the name of research?
Trawling the internet for location data and character names is about it, I’m afraid. When you’re making up
your entire world, much of it is done inside your head.
6~ What are some of
your favorite kinds of stories to read?
I
like to read stories that don’t have a traditional happy ending. I like it when
main characters are killed off, or I’m surprised in a big way. Most of my
favorite books (Me Before You by JoJoMoyes, The Road by Cormac McCarthy, Geek
Love by Katherine
Dunn, Everything Matters by Ron Currie, Jr.) are very bleak, beautifully written
accounts of all the ways love ruins us, and saves us at the same
time.
7~ What is something
people would be surprised to know about you?
I’m very sensitive and soft-hearted, which I hate about myself. I do my best
to pretend I’m not, because it’s excruciating for me to have people think I’m
girly or emotional. Most people would describe me as tough and self-confident,
which only goes to prove how good I am at faking it. If I had my way, I’d be
like Meryl Streep in The Devil Wears Prada – okay, maybe not that bad. But it’s all an act; I’m a marshmallow.
Don’t tell anyone, though!!
8~ Do you sing and
dance around the house while picking up?
That question assumes I pick up around the house. I’m an
unapologetic slob. My housekeeper absolutely hates me. My husband isn’t too thrilled about it,
either. *shrugs*
9~ Describe yourself
in three words?
Passionate. Goofy.
Smart.
Climbing out my bedroom window on tied-together sheets from
my two-story house when I was sixteen years old. My father heard me
rappelling down the side of the house (it was ten
o’clock on a school night) and came outside to find me dangling
there, twisting in the
wind. I had a date with this guy named Tony who was going to teach me how to
drive his Mustang. Seriously, it was only a driving lesson. I
swear!
11~ How did you
celebrate the sale of your first book?
I was in shock when my
book sold. There is a fog surrounding that day when my agent called to tell me
she had a deal; I think there was screaming involved, and later a lot of
champagne. I’m just guessing though. For all I know, I might have stood there
drooling for four hours, I seriously cannot remember.
12~ What are the
scenes that are the hardest for you to write?
The stuff that is in
between all the action scenes or emotional scenes. The stuff that gets you from
here to there – the transitions. I hate those.
13~ Is there anything
special you would like to say to your readers while we have you here
today?
Yes – THANK YOU. Without you, there is no me. I mean
there is a
me, but not a writer me. (You know what I mean.) I am profoundly grateful that
readers take the time to buy and read my books, and I know exactly how lucky I
am that I’ve been published and have loyal fans. I don’t take any of that for
granted and I thank you
from the bottom of my heart for your support.
J.T. Geissinger’s debut
novel, Shadow’s Edge, was published in 2012 and was a #1 Amazon US and UK
bestseller in fantasy romance and romance series. She has been nominated for the
prestigious RITA® award from the Romance Writers of America for
best paranormal romance for her second book in the Night Prowler series, Edge of
Oblivion.
A life-long lover of reading and
a self-professed “book addict,” she didn’t realize her dream of writing a novel
until a milestone birthday forced her to take stock of her goals in life. Always
believing the right time to commit to putting pen to paper would magically
announce itself, it took waking up one cold January morning with a shiny new
zero as the second number in her age to kick start her determination.
Starting on that very day, she
wrote what would become Shadow’s Edge in a little over four months and submitted
it to several literary agents. Nothing happened. Thinking that was the end of
that but by no means willing to give up on her dreams of being published, she
began work on a second manuscript.
Then, during a trip to
Italy in honor of their 10th wedding anniversary and the honeymoon she and
her husband never took, she received an email that would change her life. It was
from an agent, Marlene Stringer of Stringer Literary, and it contained the three
words every aspiring author longs to hear: “I loved it.”
Marlene sold the
manuscript to Montlake Romance who
published it six months later. Hitting the #1 Amazon bestseller lists within
weeks of publication, Shadow’s Edge was book one of the Night Prowler novels.
Book two, Edge of Oblivion, was published in October 2012 and will be followed
by Rapture’s Edge in June 2013, and Edge of Darkness in fall 2013. There are six
books total planned for the series.

I love The Road by Conor McCormac too. Chilling, but the story has totally stayed with me!
I loved the language and the imagery. Bleak, but very beautiful.
These books look great. I can just imagine getting caught repelling down from my bedroom (I never tried it because I am deathly afraid of heights and with my luck I would get dizzy and fall, LOL).
Very nice interview
