Runes
Ednah Walters
Publication date: May 20th 2013
Genre: YA Paranormal Romance

Seventeen-year-old Raine Cooper has enough on her plate dealing with her father’s disappearance, her mother’s erratic behavior and the possibility of her boyfriend relocating. The last thing she needs is Torin St. James—a mysterious new neighbor with a wicked smile and uncanny way of reading her.

Raine is drawn to Torin’s dark sexiness against her better judgment, until he saves her life with weird marks and she realizes he is different. But by healing her, Torin changes something inside Raine. Now she can’t stop thinking about him. Half the time, she’s not sure whether to fall into his arms or run.

Scared, she sets out to find out what Torin is. But the closer she gets to the truth the more she uncovers something sinister about Torin. What Torin is goes back to an ancient mythology and Raine is somehow part of it. Not only is she and her friends in danger, she must choose a side, but the wrong choice will cost Raine her life.

Review

For the first time in a long time I find myself crushing madly on a teen hero in a YA book. This hasn't happened since the Twilight series. Mainly because I seldom read YA, but something about Torin St. James had me curious and wanting more from the beginning of “Runes”. Granted he isn't your usual teen and he is only technically 19. Maybe it's the blue eyes and black hair or his wicked personality. I am not sure, but he won my swoon factor majorly.

Raine was your normal average teenage girl. Swim team co-captain, two best friends since like forever, and mad crush on the boy next door who just happens to be one of the two best friends. How was she supposed to know her life was about to take a change for the more interesting route. Also that she would be battling feelings for a certain cocky, blue eyed boy with a wicked gleam in his eyes that made her pulse pound and her heart race. Heck, he made my pulse pound and heart race too even gave me butterflies and made me get cheesy moony grins.

Normally I do longer summaries, but there was so much happening, plus things I didn't expect and I don't want to spoil or ruin the experience for anyone so I stuck to the minimum one.

Even though I thought Torin was an amazing character Raine was a great leading lady, sassy yet loyal, sweet yet protective of those she cared about. I loved the banter between them. Ednah also made me love the background characters as well, plus dislike the baddies you just want to tell off.

I was slightly worried since I mainly read adult books that this would take me forever to read. I should have known better. I love Ednah's adult books what I didn't expect was to be wowed so thoroughly that for the first time in months I finished this YA book of hers in one day. However, the end had me yelling "dang it to H E double hockey sticks".  I mean seriously how could you do that to me and make me wait for the next book??? Lucky for me I was in book hangover mode for a few days. I say Ednah has a winner with this one in my books. It has a solid plot, mystery, baddies, and romance. Oh myyyyy I want more.

5 out of 5 stars
